1. That's for next year's tax. We pay every month as well.
2. As I understand it-there is no tax paid this year on "non exceptional income" -for pensioners that means your normal pensions only on exceptional payments-( monies not paid every year-redundancy payments things like that) It was explained in a notice at the start of filling in online tax form. Any prelevements are for NEXT years tax. I'm sure there will be someone who understands it better but that's how I've read it. This is an English translation of the impots page about année blanche. https://www.economie.gouv.fr/prelevement-a-la-source/2018-annee-de-transition
3. Don't forget your UK bank account details as well.
4. UK International Driving Permits are invalid for someone-even a UK licence holder-living somewhere other than the UK. It says that on the application .
5. You're right about only those with bad service saying anything. I was a service manager for a large supermarket and I remember being told at a training day that if you have good service you tell -in average-2 people . If you have had bad service you tell 8.
6. Actually Nick P -I'm not perfect and was caught speeding in the UK before we moved here. However I would never assume or expect that I could flout the speeding rules and not get caught or fined just because I had a foreign plated car. Since foing my speed awareness course in the UK some years ago I try very hard to stick to the national speed limits of whichever country I'm driving in. Getting distracted by kids or the thought of your holiday is surely the best way to have an accident-just as being distracted by a mobile.
7. Really. Do you mean you just ignore the speed limits?
8. Don't see the problem with this. You speed. You get caught. You get fined.
9. Cultura is a large store that sells-among other things-art and craft supplies. There's one at the Family Village outlet on the ring road that goes past the airport ( sorry don't know road numbers ect-only know how to get there )
10.
WHY WHY WHY do people refuse to read the official site of the country they wish to live in?
I would but I also need to understand it completely-so while I'm glad that your French is up to it- mine isn't. At least on RIFT it's being looked at and translated direct from the government issued communique by fluent French speakers who are also cross referencing it against other announcements.
11. Since non-EU residents of more than 3 months have the right to join the French health service-I have an American friend who had no problems-I don't see that there is a problem. Under PUMA as well I believe pension income is not taken into account for cotisation- although I'm not certain on that. I'm sure someone else will be up to date on that . So people may find that not a lot changes except of course they will need to get a French EHIC.
12. Our commune is well under 500-mostly elderly. No goody bags here. No OAP lunch. In fact no anything-including road repairs, verge trimming etc.
13. Unions are never bothered about those they "represent " -only about political power IMO.
14. I think It's no easier in the UK than in France to survive on a low income. It's not purely a French problem.

IRM

We went last Monday(18/11) for an appointment with the Audiologist ( sudden hearing loss in one ear for OH). Sent for IRM, saw the receptionist and appointment given for 30th. Not bad. That was in a Clinic.
16. Often seems to me that in order not to " offend " a minority - the PC brigade are quite happy to " offend " the majority.
17. Because they're jobsworths-at least the traffic wardens are. A bit like the foncs in France-becsuse they can?. And if you think selfish mindless idiots are exclusive to Britain or the British you are very sadly mistaken. There are plenty of those types in all nationalities-yes even French.
18. I went to the Marie as well and they gave me a Certificate do domicile-basically an official stamped form giving the date we moved here. Worth trying if your commune is small or you are known to the Marie. I'm with Judith on this-our rdv is next week-I've just put in everything and anything I can think of. Tax forms , b/c, m/c, passport, avis d'impots, taxe hab & fonc. , bills, 5 years pension P60's each ( last one translated) , bank statements UK and French, Attestation, mutuelles and CV for health. They will take what they need. Maybe overkill but if they need it then it's there.
19. Whose truth? My truth? Your truth? The truth as others see it? The " real " truth. There are many " truths" -depends which one you want.
20. We got a credit for our UK rental on this year's tax form no problem.
21.
As I said earlier
I'm sure they would still be able to make payments into a UK bank.
So just another storm in a teacup to appeal to the overly worrisome[:D]
Glad you think so. My husband's pension provider couldn't say for definite IF his pension could be paid even into a UK bank account as they had no communication from the government and had no details of any discussion. And the company in question is huge and covers many different pension providers.
22. Same here Jazzer in N. Dordogne . Saw it for longish periods between the clouds.
23. We kept our UK property-it's rented out and provides a bit more income. Rent us declared in UK(it has to be) and on our French tax form. We've been lucky we have great tenants (only 2 lots in the 7 years we've been here-one set for 4 years. The second 3 and counting) We were advised to sell and invest the money but I'm glad we didn't. We have friends who have had to return to the UK who-having sold everything-found it very difficult to afford a house in the area they wanted. As for pensions-we only have company ones st present. OH gets his OAP in 2 months. They ard paid into UK bank accounts and transferred as and when needed. OAP will be paid direct to French account. For us I think tax is lower here than in the UK-but it depends on income if course.
24. That's what I do. UK self assessment for rental income from our former home and then that amount declared on French tax forms,
25. Just checked because I couldn't remember the site- it's TMB-also they have an office at the station where you can get advice, buy tickets, pick up maps ect. Otherwise you just buy tickets from the machines at are at every stop. Don't forget to 'composter' your ticket when you get on. You can get day tickets as well I think. The cite du vin is interesting-there's a lot to take in plus the wine tasting which is right at the top with great views.
