1. This attack via gas canister takes some preparation.....get the cat and dog out of the way first. Then, block the bottom end of fireplace with a cloth/pieces of cardboards. Climb on roof with said can and attach to length of string. Tape in place a second piece of string all round the long side of the canister so that when in place, the string sits nice and tight on top of the valve in order to keep it open. Be ready with piece of cardboard + stone. Put string system over canister valve and let canister down chimney flue with long length of string. Put cardboard + stone over the chimney exit and adjust height of canister to half way down chimney. Enjoy a cup of tea and let the poison take effect.......no charge.
2. Last minute recommendation....talcuum powder (talc in french) to ensure your feet stay dry. This is the secret in the infantry, keep your feet dry and your socks clean and you will walk to the moon....(better you than me). Good luck and be safe.
3. The Hornets will not move away with the smoke (they will if their nest is attacked by fire though). Just spoke to my friend who is a beekeeper in 82 and he recommends a full (large size) insecticide spray such as Beggon straight up the chimney conduct. If you have a long arm blowtorch device to get close to the nest, even better. Usual precautions to be taken when you spray (ie. not in short, flip-flops and t-shirt).
4. Sorry for barging in but tj info is wrong!!! ....Russia is 00 7 International 39 is Italy 00 39 and the next digit should be the ZERO that is normally omitted from any other international telephone number as Italy added this little one to avoid telephone number suffocation around 3 years ago.
5.
What happens when we fall out with a country that the French have a fat contract to supply weapons to ..Such as Exocet Missiles ...like they did to Argentina ... Have people forgotten that France always puts her national interest first.... every time Any agreement to aid the UK would soon be broken , I can not see her sending in an air strike from her carrier on our behalf if it would damage French interests .... Its a non starter !
I let you in onto a national secret, They are preparing the old Velodrome in Drancy for such repatriation to Blighty should the need arise.
6. My Great Grandfather was a sailor in the French Navy (Dardanelles etc..) he used to send my Great Grandmother the odd carte postale from various ports....One day she received a card reading.....Ma douce aimée, je t’écris aujourd’hui au crayon à papier car nous venons de jeter l’ancre !!!! Not much related to this post but very funny i think.
7. I got kicked out of another forum but i'm still waiting to hear why.....I have asked the Moderators for explanations and i am still waiting....job's worth.
8. The motorcyclist greetings vary as said above depending on which side of the road you drive on and what kind of bike you ride. In France the left arm stretched out at 8'0clock (your body being the centre of the clock) is a biker's known sign when passing another biker. As you know, in England the sign is a nod of the head thus avoiding lifting your arm/hand too high (although cruiser riders still use their hands one to another). You will notice that bikers overtaking and stretching their legs out as a thank you are in majority "Ninja" drivers of powerful beasts and not cruiser drivers.....try to hold your bike steady whilst accelerating with your left hand up in the air on handle bars no further apart than 35cm could be quite hazardous. Many years ago, a friend colleague of mine (the kind that would speed time oneself on a full run of the Peripherique in Paris, usually around 03h00 at the weekend) used to do wheelies at every encounter. He crashed a few times and i'm not sure if he is still alive to-date.
9. Yes very important information thank you. I have found a demodulateur for €109 which should do the tric. Terminal TNT TERBOX FRANSAT (TNT par satellite) Caractéristiques techniques:- Alimentation : 90 - 250 VAC, 50/60 Hz- Tuner : 950-2150MHz- Viaccess embarqué http://www.maisonic.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=fransat&ref=1
10. Martin, you have made your point and i thank you for that. Just need to get "me motha" to buy me such a Fransat box.
11. Just found this information on the FRANSAT website....how relevent is this for me in the UK?? 13.
12. .....Can someone explain how to quote someone else's post without it looking Egyptian...?
13.
Brit drivers coming off the ferry straight into traffic driving on the other side of the road...... Unfamilar continental road layouts and strange road signage.... Priorité a droite.....[:-))] And that's before they get onto the autobahns where they think there's no limit to how fast they can drive....... Cheap sangria, German beer in litre jugs, balmy evenings swigging Merlot at the local restaurant then piling their cars into the nearest tree. And of course, as everyone in the world knows, French drivers sitting on their rear bumper just waiting to crash into the back of them.....[;-)] Given the above, it's a wonder there are any UK insurers who don't charge an extra premium for continental cover.
..........But......I am French !
14. I wanted to know why extending the cover to the Continent would call for additional premium? Fast buck for the Insurance people??
15. Thanks all. Actually i am not too happy to watch french tv on my laptop or PC. Will follow your advice and get myself a suitable box. Thanks. For the person (most likely a retired detective) who pasted a link to a question i had asked elsewhere, i don't ask questions for the sake of it. If i don't understand i ask the question and again and again until i am happy with the answer. I could no longer ask those same questions on the other forum as i found out, when i got back from my holidays, that my password no longer worked. My request for a reminder password drew a blank. For the past 4 weeks I have tried to get to the bottom of it (ie. why??) but their moderators must be related to the largest bird on earth as my questions sent by Email remain unanswered.
16. Well that's me told off then.....What i am against is having to pay more for my yearly fully comprehensive cover to be valid on the Continent. You boys in the know....why would that be?
17. Many thnaks Anton. LAst question, why do they need a chipped card to read the channels if those are free to get????
18. Thanks. What's a simple FTA receiver???? Can i go-ahead with this move now ??? How many channels would i get?? and which one??
19. I have enjoyed 5 free channels using a 80cm dish/single LMB and an old analog box (we are in Whitley Bay). When the analog signal is switched off sometime soon, what kind of box will i need to continue viewing my french channels ??? Will i need to change the dish/LMB also? Many thanks for help.
20. My own experience EVERY TIME i travel to France (UK registered and insured comprehensive). I have been with MoreThan for many years and the story is the same every year....). I call them a couple weeks before travelling telling (always a call centre in Bangalore...) them we are off to France (sometime via Holland and Belgium). If the journey is more that 5 days, they ask me to pay for the additional level of cover(3rd part abroad to fully comp abroad) as multi-explained above (5 days or less is free and for as many trips as you want). I ring on day one telling them that i will be travelling for 5 days there and back. Certificate of fully comprehensive insurance on the Continent is then sent directly to my home address. I repeat this little exercise for as long as it takes to cover our entire stay in France. I end up with 3 or 4 certificate of insurance ensuring we are covered fully comprehensive (as per the UK) when we travel on holiday and at no extra cost.
21. How long are you planning this walk will take?? Where are you starting from? It has always been an aim of mine to do it from Calais all the way down...May be when i retire.
22. Are you guys doing the walk to Compostella in September???
23. All depends where you go for your crepes. Some restaurants merely open a packet and heat them up, slam bang €8.00. Other places make their own crepe and that makes all the difference. Three years ago 10 of us went skiing around La Clusaz/Grand Bornand and stayed Half Board in British owned based that had fantastic feedback for the quality of their food. One night they served us crepes Bretonne and ice cream for desert, those crepes came straight from the packet with the lines of fold still clearly showing (and the unmistakable taste of shop bought crepes). They had not even attempted to warm them up. There was uproar that night in the place from our corner end…..Other guests (all Brits I must say) munched on them like cows eat grass in a field.
