  1.  Is Babylon Berlin not on Canal+ or Arte or Netflix?

    Bread

Good for you, I am struggling to get fresh yeast or flour at the moment and now you have 500grams of dried yeast. I don't need to bake bread, but would like to make up some brioche, fruited buns and pizza, which is a pity that I cannot. I was wondering how much dried yeast you use for say 1kg of flour?
  3. I have just watched the last two episodes of Babylon Berlin and feel absolutely exhausted. It is not very often that any tv series or film just sucks into it completely, but this has. Yes, it is late at night, but I am a nightowl, but I don't usually feel like this at this time of night.  I have been absolutely gripped by both series and am looking forward to hopefully a further series, even knowing how awful it will probably be. It won't be to everyone's taste, but certainly to mine.
  4. At a limit I could use grease proof paper twice, but no more, cakes can slightly stick to it, and I wouldn't fancy trying to wash it. I rarely use it more than once anyway, and usually only when it has pastries or scones on it. Would depend. And the talk of Izal or Bronco, honestly, very bad memories and one would have to sing 'happy birthday' several times whilst hand washing to get the 'stink' off that off one's hands.[:-))]
  5. Yes, I would say it meant to use either side and perhaps I would. If you fancy economy, I started buying these years ago and have had some for literally 15 odd years. I have cut some to size for my various baking tins and trays. They wash easily in warm soapy water. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Invero%C2%AE-Non-Stick-Baking-Liner-Cooking/dp/B0765WNH6G/ref=psdc_3000353031_t1_B01KYK6O0A
  6. [:D]LOL, won't be many years or maybe sooner, before I won't be here to see any beauty either. Taxes and death eh! both inescapable!
  7. Husband made a wooden clapper when this started and every week, it's the third now, has adjusted it. It will be perfect by the time this is all over the way he is going. I am still going out with a pan and wooden spoon. Nice evening yesterday but here 'up north' we had that very cold wind.
  8. Raab, limited powers, well, perhaps, but frankly if the worst had happened it would have been sorted at a great rate of knots. Remember Blair used to leave John Prescott in charge, is it really any worse now?
  9. There was a wonderful program on a few years ago called 'Life After People'. We had all gone. And in spite of the way of our going, the predictions are that nature will take over and rebuild this planet. Going as far as there being next to no sign that we were ever here, apart from say the Lascaux Cave paintings still being there. When this program started I thought it would be depressing, but it felt uplifting that this little blue planet could survive our ravages or nature in it's own ways fighting back and thrive without us. My son and I have had conversations such as your post for quite some time. We both understand that most people are uncomfortable and unhappy with such discussions. And yet, we both believe that nature will one day have had enough, or we will simply self destruct. I am fully aware that I am here for but a blink in time. As I said, I don't find this depressing if the planet will sort itself out eventually. AND I truly find great beauty and balance in that idea.
  10. I thought he had got a replacement, Raab took over. I don't find this a problem at the moment.
  11. In the sunshine it was warm, but we did get some hazy cloud, but boy oh boy, when I went for my Boris Walk, the wind was bitter, not so bad on my way home as it was on my back and sunny on my front.
  12. As I said I get skin problems and fortunately do not have them at the moment. IF I did I would have open wounds, and would most definitely be wearing gloves when I was out. When returning home, I would probably wash the gloves whilst wearing them and then sort things out and then wash them again. I would do as I currently do and wash door handles etc. And then chuck'em and wash my hands. Maybe I was simply brought up to not waste things, and using endless gloves, well, feels wrong if they can be used more than once.
  13. OK, I am not scientific etc , I don't understand how much works, so here is a question. Why can you not leave these rubber gloves on and wash them in a warm mild  bleach solution. And then rinse in running water and then wash as you would your hands? I sometimes get skin problems, and have to bake pastries and bread wearing gloves. And as I would when I am baking without gloves, I keep washing my hands, a lot, and with gloves on, wash whilst wearing them.
  14. I have just read this on Wiki:- he is also obtuse, lazy, racist, inquisitive, deceitful, slothful, self-important and conceited So guess who it describes, apart from the current obvious, to which I would add avaricious. So you are probably right about some 'personal' interest.
  15. You are not alone, that is what one does these days.
  16. Wooly didn't you say he was a Dr? All strong medication should be prescribed by a doctor. And in this case were, properly prescribed and I glad that they worked. In America at the moment, the great leader doesn't read, didn't see the memo about the virus, but was saying that they, meaning 'he' was on top of it months ago. Now for all he says he isn't a Dr, an admission I am rather sure that he does not like stating, he tells people to go ahead, take it. Here are some of his supporters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzDhm808oU4

    Bread

GG,[:-))] your post is one of those that I stand back in amazement. I was always told to put a tray with boiling water in the bottom of the oven to get a better crust, and I spray my choux pastry with water just as I am putting it in, to get them crispy. I seem to think that doing what I do works, and I do get crusty loaves if I want them. If you want softer bread, what about making bread buns, quicker to bake and as soon as they 'knock' on the top I turn them gently and cook a few more minutes for them to 'knock' on the bottom too. Also you can make the buns as to the size you want. I make them in various sizes.
  18. Under strict medical supervision, perhaps, but here is a live link:- https://www.drugs.com/sfx/hydroxychloroquine-side-effects.html Those are the possible side effects. I know three people with Lupus. It also treats rheumatoid arthritis. Now in the US people with these severe illness are having trouble getting them.  So BRAVO  to Trump the Great Maligne Deceiver! And yes he is deceiving people by the merest suggestion that they have nothing to lose.
  19. We always drink whole milk and I can tell the difference between UHT and fresh, they just taste different, and I like both. Sterilized, well, no, no, no! Horrible stuff.
  20. I am pretty sure that not enough cases are being tested in France or the UK. And number of deaths, well, we will all see won't we. Whatever happens, will happen. Those of us who are reasonable will do our best and those that aren't, well, there are always idiots, but they should be dealt with firmly.
  21. What dreadful stuff it is. Last time I had the choice of that or nothing, I chose nothing. I would rather have evaporated milk in my coffee than that.
  22. Yes, a good friend in London. As they were already unwell, had been self isolating for weeks and still caught it. I only know of one other case at the moment.
  23. Well, you don't write the name and address etc on it until you have the stamp on it, do you? ............ why would you? IF it ends up on the back, then treat the back as the front and then mark on the front TSVP merci.
  24. As we strolled along the Prom, I said that it was a perfect english summers day. A gentle warm breeze, glorious blue skies and just 'right' as far as temperature is concerned. We were out for our Boris Walk and very pleasant it was too.
  25. I am a very basic sort of cook, in fact it was literally years before I even bought a hand whisk, had a favourite fork for all whisking and beating. Although I did have my Moulinex blender by then. AND my waistline was not the better for it, never is.
