pigeonniere repair

Im currently looking at reparing our pigeonniere. The outside has been done beautifully however the inside is crumbling away.

A few stones are crumbling away at the bottom into dust/sand, what's the best way to repair this? Is it possible to just get new stones in and repoint them with lime?

It also dosent have any foundation like a lot of old french buildings. Will it be possible to have a concrete flooring once the walls are repaired?

Hi Katie. Welcome to the Forum.

For info, the tower/unit that used to house pigeons (for their excrement as manure for the garden and meat for the table) is called "Un Pigeonnier" in French.

Now for your internal wall. After having cleared the loose covering/rendre/dust, I would wet the walls extensively and skim them with a lime mortar mixture (water, sand and lime (chaux aerienne)).

Don't put a concrete flooring in. Concrete should be banned.

A dalle in chaux (the same stuff to repoint your walls) is the way to go.

You need to expose the stones not cover them. Especially the entrances to where the pigeons sit. I don't understand the post above.

This is a big and expensive undertaking. You need some skill at pointing to do this.
