Talking of telenomics, did you see the "Go Greek for a Week" progamme?

I wish my Economics teacher had explained these things as well as some of these programmes do, I might have got a better grade.  Yes, it's often dumbed down but at least it makes sense!

I shall watch that, Wilko, thanks.[:)]

The "Go Greek" thing was very low brow!  Four people in different professions were advised by a Greek "accountant" based upon what their taxation/entitlements/benefits would be in Greece.  It was quite an eye opener as to how Greece got itself in such a mess and how the EU economic system in effect gave them carte blanche to do it.

'The Flaw' was really excellent programme explaining in laymens language the terrible truth about the failures in capitalisation.

"In the 1920's 22% of Americas wealth was owned by 1% of the population"

"In the 2000's 25% of Americas wealth is owned by 1% of the population"

The similarities are scary.

Hmmm, I think most of us are better off, especially when I think of my ole' gran . . .

I wonder what the percentage's are in Russia, China and India? to name a few

Capitalism is based on self-interest and self-esteem; it holds integrity and trustworthiness as cardinal virtues and makes them pay off in the marketplace, thus demanding that men survive by means of virtue, not vices. It is this superlatively moral system that the welfare statists propose to improve upon by means of preventative law, snooping bureaucrats, and the chronic goad of fear. - Alan Greenspan

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”  Winston Churchill

The standout bits for me were the economist who said that the bloated bonuses were justified and necessary as these companies needed to pay them to attract the right people and the woman who said "we just want our economists to be able to do arithmetic."  Priceless.

A superb programme.  We could do with more telly like this - complicated but very important subjects told in a concise, understandable and erudite fashion.
