I have been told that there is a British run F&C van doing the

rounds in the Vendée. My informant (a normally reliable source) tells

me that they import all their ingredients from the UK. Can this be

true? Even the fish? I am intrigued.....

the one listed above serves the Deux Sevres

the one in the Vendee is on

www.inthevendee.com

They do get their gear from the UK but I doubt the fish comes from there.

I dont crave for it anymore.

I'm sure its all good stuff tho.

Thanks for the replies, chaps....except for the peas: that made me feel quite ill.

I do, occasionally, make F&C at home. I always use ling for this -

much cheaper than cod and I think gives a better result, but I digress.

I shall look out for them on my travels (the "inthevendee" link

was helpful) and shall question them closely about this at the earliest

opportunity. Perhaps they really do haul haddock all the way from

Billingsgate in search of authanticity. I need to find out. I wonder if

they will think that I am either a looney or taking the p i s s?

Winter is quiet around here, and I take any avenue of stimulation open to me, however trivial and banal it might first appear.

Sounds barmy - surely not.  They come out of the sea, they aren't raised in Billingsgate.

Just watch it, sausage features, or I might arrange for you to be battered and deep fried...

Apparently they are called La Vendée Chippy. I don't want to seem

rotten, but isn't that really terrible French? Surely La Friterie

Anglaise Vendéene would be more appropriate? "Chipie" used in the

feminine would translate as "minx" as in Minnie the, I think. The

badly-behaved little girl from the Vendée....doesn't do it for me,

though it could be an accurate description of my daughters, I suppose.

Still, this is all completely irrelevent if the product is any good. I

notice that in what can only be described as an act of marketing genius

they sell the cod & chips outside bars with whom they have seating

(and, therefore, drinking) arrangements. Surely someone must have eaten

from them? Are they worth a detour?
