Judie
We are going to be in the area around La Rochelle next month and wondered if anyone could recommend both restaurants and charming B&Bs .

suein56
No-one got anything to recommend?
Sorry, Judie, but last time we were there was 2002 and, although we had a really super time, I am sure the hotels and restos will have changed hugely during the meantime. We stayed here, but it is a hotel and not a B&B.Sue
YCCMB
How "close" to LR were you thinking of?
Judie
Within an hour or so.
YCCMB
http://www.lebruant.com/http://www.jedecouvrelafrance.com/f-5134.charente-maritime-domaine-perthuiserie.htmlI can recommend both of these, although I don't know prices. They're about 35-40 mins south of LR, both in St Porchaire. I'd've recommended Le Bruant as a resto, because I thought their "bedrooms" were actually a hotel, but I see they classify themselves as a C d'H. I know one or two people who have stayed at the Domaine de la Perthuserie and spoke very positively of it.

GDF site (no 7224)The other chambre d'hôte - le bruant - looks incredible, but I haven't found prices for that one yet.Sue

Benjamin
La Flandre at St Palais-sur-Mer is an excellent restaurant. Good food, well cooked and with professional and relaxed service by the owner himself. I would guess you'd have to book at the weekends in July.If you pushed the boat out the bill could make your eyes water but still good value. Chancer
I stayed in a really nice CDH about 10 minutes drive outside of La Rochelle about 3 years ago, I'm sorry but I cannot remember the name, I did what I usually do and just pitched up at the Tourist information office, looked through the photos and flyers in their folder, tried to work out which one the lady was pushing just a little too hard (usually a relative or some sort of kickback involved) and asked pertinant questions. This method has yet to fail me plus if you dont feel comfortable when you are shown round the CDH you can just say no, leave and try another.
