Nothing to do with France...

I'm with you Clair.  I was absolutely in total shock when he won a second term.  I lost pretty much all faith in my fellow Americans.  I was so ashamed.

As to the "Newt."  I read he has a reputation for extramarital affairs. Me, I don't see the attraction !

Living in California and having "Arnie" as a govenor, I can tell you that American politics are a joke.  I am English but have lived here 20 years.  I did not vote for GWB and I have no idea how on earth he got in a second time.  I can't even believe that we have a flipping actor as a "gubernator."  Are politics anywhere realistic anymore?  It seems to be that what the popular vote is versus what actually  happens is a joke.  Well, at least it is here...

I think it has something to do with France. After all, the French virtually invented the political extra-marital affair (not to mention the various other fiddles) and do try to maintain their position, despite the attempts by the Americans, not forgettiing the Prescotts of this world, to outdo them. Mind you, the present batch of French candidates seem a bit boring in that respect, notwithstanding Sego's wealth tax and Sarko's Paris flat - way behind Chirac in the dodginess stakes.
