Are you Really British...?

Recommended Posts

I just received this :

One of the British national daily newspapers is asking readers
"what it means to be British?". Some of the emails are hilarious but

this is one from a chap in Switzerland ...

"Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for

a Belgian beer, then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a

Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch

American shows on a Japanese TV. And the most British thing of all?

 Suspicion of anything foreign."

"Being French is about driving in a French car to an Irish pub for Eurofizz beer, then travelling home, grabbing a Moroccan couscous or a Turkish kebab or an Italian pizza on the way, to sit on Ikea Swedish furniture and watch American shows (or a French football team made up of.... etc) on a Japanese TV.  And the most French thing of all......"  no, I won't say it!  [:)]

The only difference is attitude.  The British say "we do these things therefore we're useless".   The French say "we do these things but we're still French, so it's cool".

Gallic shrugs and a big bof to it all!  [:D]

And here was Gordon Brown a couple of days ago, wanting a new holiday to celebrate Britishness, and suggesting everyone else 'reclaims' the Flag of the Union from the far right (a bit late in the day for that I suspect, though they do seem to be encouraging the display of the flags that just have a 'cross' these days).

The comments suggest the idea is popular, but I can't imagine anything less 'British'.
