New Electricity Supplier

Anyone been contacted by this company, Direct Energie ?

http://energie1.ifrance.com/

We would, like most,  try to save money on our annual bills (You don't want to

know the annual total we spend with E.D.F !) but the thoughts of how

the UK has gone and all the companies offering you cheaper electric,

along with the problems sometimes associated with changing companies.

I like their headline.

Same electric, less expensive and......

With
Direct Energie  nothing changes but the price.... note, a bit of  entrepreneurial skill there Mr Bush !!

Well, I have emailed for details, so we shall see................

Good luck and keep us informed.

I have some severe reservations though.

The site avoids actually listing tariffs (as far as I can tell) yet does resort to gimmicky swirly stuff to fill your time. ALSO it has about 20 unrelated adverts at the foot of the page.

More a Jumble Sale than  a worthy national operation I fear.

I dread to think what it will be like in 2007 when household users are allowed to change suppliers. Electricity suppliers in the UK often make a complete hash of handling the transfers. Heaven only knows what the French will do when they addin  the requirements for a few registered letters, twelve month rolling contracts, advance notice of cancelation........

So keep us informed how you get on Miki, we will regard you as our pathfinder!

I hope some UK entrepreneurs will get over here and show the French how to compete for electricity consumer's business.  Only a state protected monopoly could hope to get away with EDF standing charges and poor choice of tariff options.

My phone service is provided by a UK based company and the call rates are lower and less complicated than any I've seen from French providers.

Roll on deregulation!

Err thanks BJ but, can't we have a democratic vote on this ? For a

start, I know SB likes to get her teeth in to things like this. I have

to admit, it is a little bit suck it ands ee, not much to go on from

the site, it has more of a feel of a mail out to see which mug, I mean

which people they get replies from, to then "cold call back".

I have already had a call this afternoon from the Var asking me if I

had some minutes to spare and they would explain things to me,

unfortunately, I was out in the car and as I was paying for the

transfer of the call and of course being safety conscious, I asked them

to call back tomorrow morning, who shall I/we designate for that call

and to tread where no other LF member has trodden ?

If I hear nothing by the morning...................I guess that kinda means me then !

In the mean time, if anyone thinks I might be treading on their toes, please do feel free to tell me, thanks in advance.

I wouldn't expect too much in the way of competition, though. All these

"new" suppliers will still have to buy from EDF (who will maintain if

not a monopoly then something close to it) and will have to use EDF

lines to deliver. I was quite a fan of derugulation until I saw the

resulting beggers' muddle that arose in the UK, so now I'm not so sure.

Perhaps these new chaps are hoping to make money on the energy trading

game by having a position rather than turning a crust on actually

retailing the stuff.
Pray let me know how it compares to my EJP

Miki......... I know, I know it was a bummer when they stopped that,

you never know with a little competition maybe they will bring it

back.
I have rued the day that we lost EJP in 1999 on moving from the Doo

Don, nothing ever got close to the beauty of the costings, no wonder

EDF stopped it then to new users and even those that had it, lost it

when they moved and the newcomers to the house, never got it either !

B******s !

Can't see this lot getting even close to EJP, can you !!

They do look a bit iffy, don't they? I had a peer at their website and

there is a remarkable paucity of information there - who they are, for

example. The only address on there seems to be for the company that

built the site...all a bit suspect, and certainly no match for a

determined set of teeth.
