Quillan
Do you have to have an ordonnance from the doc or can you just go to the laboratoire and ask for a test?
You can go and ask for a test I guess and pay, that is assuming you know what you want tested. It might be cheaper to go via the doctor.
mint
Thanks, Q, as you say, I could ring up the laboratoire and ask. It's for a full blood count; not for me but for OH.He's been complaining of tiredness recently and, the last couple of days, of dizziness. At his age, I thought it was worth investigating. It's the devil's own job getting him to agree to see a doctor. Me too, we are not fans of doctors ......they don't always do you good (as I found out to my cost this summer!)
woolybanana
Right, Madame, let's get this straight. You are not a doctor and cannot know what might be wrong with your husband, nor do you know what tests he might need. So, get thee to a doctor with hubby, tethered to thy wrist if necessary. It is too important an issue to play Sherlock Quack![;-)]
Chancer
I have one each January, its not remboursable unless you have an ordonnance, in my case not having a mutuelle I pay about 30% towards the tests and also (€7 or so) towards the doctors visit. I make sure while I am there he signs the multitude of forms and attestations that all the sports clubs insist on to run, cycle, swim or even walk on a public path [:'(] and very bloomin slow they walk too!You may find that the full bilan isnt as full as you thought, if you have any specific concerns then mention them, one year he added a diabetes urine test and I now also have a full bilan hepatic as I found out that I am probably a carrier of a familiale genetic abnormality. Evianers
My OH has had to have 9 blood tests this year [post- and pre-operatively].Each test has been requested by the doctor with a prescription [ordanance]but for various different things. We had a HUGE shocks when one of thesetests returned positive for E-Coli so as others have said, go to the doctorswith your OH posthaste.
NormanH
Get him to go to the Doctor. In any case you will need advice about how to interpret the results, or act on them if something needs to be done.
ViVienne
if you have the full blood tests, how will you interprete the results? No point just having a blood count as any number of things could cause tiredness.
mint
Thank you for your timely and good advice. We can both be a bit stubborn about going to the doctors as we are fortunate enough to have enjoyed excellent health, give or take the odd little no-consequence episode. In view of what you have said, I will take him along to the medecin tomorrow (no appointment tomorrow afternoon). Thanks again.
Evianers
We are both and always have been fit, healthy, hike regularly in the mountains of Switzerland and France. In January my OH was diagnosed with Gleason Scale 7 prostate cancer. ENORMOUS SHOCK! Thank God because of diligence and frequent [blood] tests and scans it was found in time to be operated, and now 6 months later, the patient is doing really well.I am NOT intimating for one moment that this is what might be wrong : no, simply that doctors and specialists can and do interpret blood tests on a daily basis and know what to look for. If you need any additional information do not hesitate to contact us privately as believe me, we now know our way around blood tests!!Better safe than sorry. Evianers
I was going to write "pleasure" in response, which is perhaps not quite the right sentiment. But you all know what I mean and thank you for your good wishes. To look at him [OH] one would never know the profound trauma we have been through during the last 8 months - still water under the bridge and all that.Yaw'll keep safe and well now......
