How to say?

I was always of the belief that to say.....  We have not..... is.... noun avon pas but yet a couple of internet linked translations have come up with the word  demuni. Could someone shed some more light on this?

nous n'avons pas 

"demuni" means very poor - impoverished, afaik

difficult to say without context, but the general sense is there already:

démuni = lacking in = without ===> nous sommes démunis d'eau = nous n'avons pas d'eau

Yes.. nous n'avon pas...sorry but my written french is somewhat non-existant  but I can now see where the word 'demuni' figures. Thanks Claire

Sorry to nitpick, MicAni, as Clair says it's "nous n'avons pas":  you have miss out the "s" after "n'avons".  Of course, it sounds the same when you say it as the "s" is not pronounced.  The "ons" ending tells you that the subject is "nous" or we in English.

I'm no expert being a new French speaker/student/resident so I can fully understand your confusion!
