AnOther
One of the guest we had around for drinks and nibbles just after Christmas has invited us back for "apéritif dinatoire" tomorrow but I'm struggling to find what 'dinatoire' means. Can somebody help me out please ?Thanks
nectarine
It's literally translated as 'dinner aperitif' - I was invited to one some while ago and it wasn't a meal but a series of snacks and canapes with drinks. Like you, I wasn't sure what to expect and didn't know if it meant dinner, what we had were lots of carefully prepared little toasts and things to nibble at. Probably our equivalent of drinks 'n nibbles.
AnOther
Thanks nectarine, I guessed as much, virtually a direct equivalent of our little gathering then but better to be sure than make a social gaffe.................!
Cat
Very much like your gathering Ernie, take it to mean a buffet lunch/dinner.
pachapapa

chessfou
Anything goes then?
Almost but I would suggest some at least half-way decent wine after the initial aperos (unless you're going to serve bubbly stuff all the way through).
