scotty
quand meme. Can anyone give me an example of what is meant when the French use this expression?
odile
depends very much on context! but usually is a form of 'really'tu ne vas quand meme pas manger tout le gateau! In this case it means really as in " you are not REALLY going to eat the whole cake!"Quand meme, tu exageres! You are REALLY exagerating!
Weegie
still; (just the same)"ils étaient occupés mais ils nous ont quand même rendu visite." - "they were busy but they still came to visit us."
Callie
Quand même can mean "even so" or sometimes "despite that" ("that" refers to something which has gone before)

DerekJ
Have a look at the definitions and examples on About.com website. They give....anyway, even so; really; finally...I find this website excellent for general learning. I was struggling with the use of the verb "Faillir" the other day and found their tutorial a great help and it leads you on to additional learning. In my case it led me to look at "Manquer" and "Rater"
scotty
Yes thanks, that helps. I asked our French neighbours last week to explain, after hearing them say it a few times, but, as they don't speak any English, we could not arrive at an understanding of it like the examples quoted.
