rencontrer v reunir

I have to arrange a site visit between a friend and my bosses at work

rencontrer seems to be more of an of chance meeting where as (se) réunir seems to be more of an organised meeting

I know at work when we have operational meetings it is a 'réunion' so I suspect I already know the answer just thought I would ask

what I am asking is along the lines of,

The owner of the property will be arriving on such and such date and would like to organise a meeting (I would use réunion here)  at the site

is it possible to meet (here rencontrer or (se) réunir) on the 1st of april?

It is just a quick email, and we normal don't use formal ie vous so can dispence of all the usual polite letter endings I think!

I think the second us better with a group of people, as 'se rencontrer' to me is more just 2, but  I am not sure of that point.

In polite French you can also add "l'" before 'on' to avoid the" qu'on " which sounds like " c0n "[:)]

You could also use:

-'se voir' or 'se retrouver'

The wife also tells me that you are right! 'Se réunir' would be more for a 'meeting', where there are more people whereas 'se rencontrer' would be maybe meeting for the first time.

You "rencontre" yourself for a first time.....you "reunir" yourself for a reunion.....

You make a "rendez-vous" for a given time.

You have "rencontrer" an old friend at the supermarket yesterday

You "reunir" at a given time in front of the church for a mass walk

For your meeting, vous vous retrouverez, or vous vous donnez rendez-vous at the given spot at the said time.
