suein56
As, on first hearing, I had difficulty working out the words in the version just john mentions I found this version particularly helpful. It wasn't until I had rerun it a few times that I realised that an English translation appears along the bottom of each frame of the film ...Sue
Hoddy
I have just read "The Unfree French" by Richard Vinen. I had already read quite a bit about the resistance because there were so many of them in 'my' bit of France, but this book is about the ordinary people who were neither collaborators nor resistants. I found it fascinating.Hoddy
Cendrillon
I have just watched a Fr. DVD "Au Bon Beurre". The film is set in wartime France, in one scene when one of the prisoners is marched out of the prison, presumably to be shot, the other prisoners started humming Le chant des Partisans, very haunting indeed. mint
Sorry to disagree, Cendrillon. I don't mean the sentiments, of course not, but I personally don't find the tune very inspiring.Perhaps I should go to the links provided on this thread. Cendrillon
I have to say it is not the most inspiring tune but it's in the minor key which to me always more poignant than a major key, then with the addition of the words I think it makes the point well. mint
Got to say I've changed my mind about the tune.Heard a brass band play it today at the tribute-laying ceremony at the town near us. And it was very moving indeed..............
