Traditional Christmas & New Years Eve fare

Hi,

We are planning on being in france for New Year and we'd like to cook some traditional french dishes for the time of year - does anyone know if the french have traditional New Years Eve / New Years Day dishes and if so, what are they!

Seafood banquet xmas eve up here in 29 with left-overs next day or a turkey if you are brave enough to get up and face cooking it. Seafood again on new years eve. Don't forget that Dec 26th-31st are normal working days in France except at weekends and you do not get days in lieu of.

Homard ou Langouste

Gambas

Caviar

Foie Gras

Confit (Canard Oie ...)

Chapon Fermier

For exemple ...

Smoked salmon is missing from Domy's list as are frogs legs and snails and I am sure that there a few other delicacies that I have forgotten.

And it isn't just odd items from the list that is eaten, it is most of it, as the food orgies that are the Revillon de Noel and St Sylvestre last most of the night.
