NormanH Posted September 20, 2009 Share Posted September 20, 2009 Perhaps not quite at their level, but very well informed and readable Roger Pilkington .Not only the 'Small boat' series, "In his "Small Boat" series, each book illustrated with elegant DavidKnight line drawings, Pilkington never intended to produce guidebooks.He realised that the great majority of his readers at that time werearmchair travellers. The boating content was liberally spiced withtales of folklore and hagiology, for Pilkington's facility with foreignlanguages enabled him to source all manner of remarkable waterwaylegends and little-known ancient saints."but his book on settling down in France which pre-dates most of the rest and was full of accurate observation.My own choice of location was based partly on his advice about the local climate..
