yello Posted October 11, 2007 Share Posted October 11, 2007 I've got a slow leak (well, I haven't, the bike's rear tyre has [;-)] ). I've found the offending puncture and it is easily repairable (central on the tread) and I know this would set me back around £20-£25 in the UK for repair. Two questions,1. Where to repair? I have a couple of Euromasters within 50km of me. It looks like they repair bike tyres, can anyone confirm? Does it vary location to location and is it best to phone first?2. Roughly how much? opas Posted October 11, 2007 Share Posted October 11, 2007 I need a new tyre on my moped (honda 50cc) I am hoping to load this onto a trailor to get it to a bike spares place for fitting (it is the rear tyre ), but if I did not have a trailor to do this ,is it usual for garages/bike shops to do a mobile fitting service.......I ask this as my nearest bike shop is about 15k away.....a long way to go with a puncture/flat tyre. It's just impossible to know what damage has occurred to the carcass when the penetration happened. This was in their official price book so I'm guessing that repairing moto tyres is legal. But I had to walk down to a motorcycle shop and borrow a paddock stand though because Profil+ didn't have one! The guy in the bike shop was a bit peeved (who can blame him!!) and I think I only got the paddock stand because my French was so crap! I reckon bike shop guy took pity on me! He said 'they should buy one' - at least, I think it was 'achat' I heard and not machette!!Odd thing was, after the tyre was refitted, the bike handled so much better! It must have been poorly seated in the first place and here was I blaming myself for being a blouse!I'll be due new pnues soon. I got Profil+ to price up sum Avon Azaro STs for me but, at 270€ the pair fitted, I reckon I'll shop around. After he did my first service, I asked him to recommend a place for tyres and he said "Me, of course!".I've no idea how much bike tyres cost here and which on-line supplier is the cheapest, etc, but I'd prefer to give the order to my BMW guy to ensure he stays in business... I've seen bike shops disappear in the UK because of a lack of trade, and I see fewer motos on the road here than in the UK (around my way anyway, and excluding scooters etc), so I reckon bike shops here must be running pretty close to the edge. My nearest one (in Aigurande) deals in quads and has a few small off road bikes. There's a guy in Argenton who seems to deal pretty much only in scoots. The nearest 'real' bike shops are in Châteauroux but again they tend to multi-task, stock only the basics and are multi-franchise. I'm going to Montluçon this weekend so maybe I'll see more there.I'm not sure which one to treat as my 'local' yet. Probably the Yamaha outfit in Châteauroux. I've been in a few times and one of the lads there always says hello. As a general rule I'd agree with you but this was a small hole (leaked about 5psi a day) and bang in the middle of the tyre tread, i.e. not sidewall. They're Michelin Pilots which, although seemingly highly regarded here, are not winners with me. I much preferred the Avon Azaro STs I used to ride a few changes ago (Conti Attacks were the last ones I had and I tried out of interest after reading good reviews). I'd never mix and match tyres so, to cut a long story short, I'd already decided on a return to the azaros in the not too distant future. The current repair is just to keep me going until I suss out where to source the new pnues of my choice - I didn't want to be forced into getting whatever was on someones shelf.
