At long last I have found the time to post the pics of the oak staircase built by OH. He saved a fortune by buying rough planks & making the staircase in his workshop.

Thank you both,

Yes, my OH is very good at his woodwork & steelwork & we are very pleased with the results. We have treated all the new oak with a 50/50 mix of linseed oil & turpentine. It brings out the grain & colour beautifully.

Thank you all very much - the house is now rented out on a long term rental to a French family who are over the moon with it. A shame to rent it out after all the hard work but the garden was just too small for Mrs Postie, so now it's on to renovating our current house - am I a sucker for punishment or what!!
