FairyNuff
I've just struggled to lift almond macaroons off baking parchment because I couldn't find rice paper in my usual supermarket. Has anybody seen rice paper in France?ThanksFairyNuff
andyh4
Any help?http://french.alibaba.com/products/edible-paper.htmlI doubt you will want to buy 100 boxes but some of the offers are for individual packs
Clair
They usually go by "galettes de riz" (not to be confused with rice cakes) and you're more likely to find them in the foreign food section of the supermarket or near the Chinese New Year marketing period.Failing that, try online HERE. FairyNuff
Thank you for the replies. I had 6 egg whites to use up and didn't fancy meringues (or egg white omelette). I had looked quite hard around LeClerc but couldn't find any, so I was wondering if it was just me being over 50 or if anyone had seen any in France.FairyNuff
Clair
Feel free to disregard this, but I swear by the Lidl baking liners... I use them for everything I bake: bread, biscuits, cakes (cut to fit a cake tin as a liner)... Nothing sticks to them and they wash off under the tap.Similar to this.Cost: around 4€
idun
Clair, I've too have been using these for years. The last I bought in France were with the papier sulpherise and I actually thought that that was what I was buying, but in the box were two of these super non stick washable sheets. They were a beige colour. I have quite a few of these and all my others are black. Nothing sticks to them.
ericd
I have always known it as "papier de riz"...... Galettes de riz would be thicker imo.
Clair
Papier de riz is used for decorative cards.Galettes de riz are used for spring rolls and the name is also used for rice cakes.

A pack of 100g (10-12 galettes) is priced at 1.85€.Oh, and they are called galettes de riz on the packaging [;-)]
