Has anyone shopped for vanilla extract lately?

Any tips as to where to buy paying a high but not extortionate price?

Lidl have extract and pods on offer several times a year at sensible prices

Yes bought the Lidl version just the other day but I recall there was a problem with vanilla production so the price was due to rise.

We have been buying the Lidl extract too when it comes in. Youngest son loves using it for cooking his desserts, especially as parents pay for it!

I have not used vanilla extract for years. I bury a vanilla pod in a jar of caster sugar. Use sugar and then top up the jar as needed. The pod lasts for a year or more.

Incidentally, have you seen the price of cake tins recently?  Shortage of vanilla pods, OK, but shortage of steel for making pans, don't think so as I thought the Chinese have flooded the market with cheap steel?

I have many 7 inch tins but for 9 inch ones, the price and choice is immediately limited.  Alas, in cake-making as for many more things in life, size does matter[:)]
