marketing - amount?

hi!  What does the forum think is a reasonable return on

investment - ie cost of advertisement - to entice them to renew?

For example having done my stats for the year, only got 1 new booking

from FC, but in total I got 28 days rental from them. Which was nice.

I had a selection of advertisers this year, but most of their enquiries were for August, and I was already booked.

Your thoughts please!!

Thanks

Hi. I advertised with 4 companies last year but 2 haven't performed at all during this time so I have ditched them both- the year befor they both provided several bookings.  My website is getting far more hits than it used to and bookings haven't dropped in any way. I now only pay out about £150 on advertising and this seems enough to bring in the business. The 4 week booking is probably  worth staying with them, especially if it links to your web site? Just my random thoughts[8-)]

I assume from your post that, FC has paid for your listing?

What time of year did this 28day booking cover?

Any marketing costing above .1% of income generated; is money burnt.

This is a hard fact which you should address.

Sooooo....if you'd got a 30,000 euro income from letting, this would

equate to 30 euro total maximum spend on advertising. I'd love to know

who is giving quality space for that kind of money....

Methinks you jest.

Our advertising spend came out at around 3.5% of total revenue, though

it will be fractionally less this year because we discarded some stuff.

Alnmike - If I understand correctly, although you took 28 days from FC,

most of this was from previous customers: would thay have found you

anyway?

We work on the following basis:

1) The six weeks summer holidays will let irrespective of where we advertise, though they still need publicity;

2) Outside of the summer six weeks, an advert must generate at least ten times it's cost to be considered worthwhile.

I don't think any serious business can ever be completely happy with

their advertising year on year: there should always be a couple of

changes. So if one advertiser (even a long standing one) no longer cuts

the mustard then they have to be considered for the chop.

John Wanamaker also had a problem with advertising and he was more of a success than most of us dream about.

I would expect the return to exceed the cost of the advert or why bother ?

Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half.

No brainer there.
