Health Insurance "U" turn

Recommended Posts

Can anyone please let me have a view as to whether my husband & I should be allowed to join CMU.  I know there have been many messages on this topic but our particular circumstances are:  We became residents in France in October 2006.  I'm 57 and have an E106 whih expires in January 2008.  My husband is 61 and a dependent on my E106.  We submitted our first income tax return for the period October - December 2006.  The reason why I think we should be able to join is that our residency was effective before November 2007.

I'd welcome views on this please.  Minnie

Your situation has been well documented already in these threads, but to summarise the position as we understand it, if you were not already registered under CMU by November 2007, then you will have to seek private health insurance once your E106 expires.

That said, we are awaiting the 'final statement' from the French DSS which may include changes to that stance.

Thanks to all who have responded to my query.  It is as we feared it might be!  Fortunately neither of us has any serious pre-existing conditions.  Exclusive Healthcare have brought out a new policy for the likes of us.  From my research it would seem to provide the best value. Thanks again.  Minnie

Cooperlola, I thought that the pre-existing condition discussion is aimed at those people already here with an E106 and in danger of  loosing their cover, not new arrivals with - and certainly without - a pre-existing condition?  If Minnie and her OH aren't here yet, whether they have a pre-existing condition or not, the French Government will not cover them.

Though my message somewhere or other was ignored the other day, it was perfectly obvious that the French system aint gonna take the sick, the maimed and the wounded from the rest of Europe unless they are already here. Basically if you have a previous condition that private health insurance wont cover they are telling you to B U G G E R off. (Mods, I am sorry for the word but pussyfooting has to stop).

Minnie is already here Tony, she said originally "We became residents in France in October 2006.  I'm 57 and have an E106 whih expires in January 2008"

They have no "serious existing conditions".  But the point made about pre conditions is nevertheless vaild.

Yes, we have been here since Oct 2006 but using our E106 which expires in Jan 2008.  The irony is that if we hadn't been entitled to the E106 we'd already be in the system and so would be OK!  Our problem is that we can't really wait for definitive answers from the Government because unless I get a private policy by 8 Jan 2008 then we'll not be covered at all.  We don't qualify for an extension of E106 to 31 March 2008, so I'm told by the CPAM English Helpline.  Neither is Newcastle interested.   All I'm praying for now is that no pre-exisiting conditions arise between now and 8 January - unlikely I know.  I must say I do feel for all in our position but with pre-exisitng conditions.  Minnie
