where

    adapter         Connection name

                   (wildcard characters * and ? allowed, see examples)

 

    Options:

       /?           Display this help message

       /all         Display full configuration information.

       /release     Release the IP address for the specified adapter.

       /renew       Renew the IP address for the specified adapter.

       /flushdns    Purges the DNS Resolver cache.

       /registerdns Refreshes all DHCP leases and re-registers DNS names

       /displaydns  Display the contents of the DNS Resolver Cache.

       /showclassid Displays all the dhcp class IDs allowed for adapter.

       /setclassid  Modifies the dhcp class id.

 

The default is to display only the IP address, subnet mask and

default gateway for each adapter bound to TCP/IP.

 

For Release and Renew, if no adapter name is specified, then the IP address

leases for all adapters bound to TCP/IP will be released or renewed.

 

For Setclassid, if no ClassId is specified, then the ClassId is removed.

 

Examples:

    > ipconfig                   ... Show information.

    > ipconfig /all              ... Show detailed information

    > ipconfig /renew            ... renew all adapters

    > ipconfig /renew EL*        ... renew any connection that has its

                                     name starting with EL

    > ipconfig /release *Con*    ... release all matching connections,

Hi,

What you have just proved by posting the ipconfig /all, is that the lease time is set to a year (April 2007 to April 2008).  So this is telling us that DHCP is not the cause of your problem.  Sorry to take you down this track - but it needed to be established.

Owens88 made good points about location and security, these are important issues in a wireless network.  I can think of some other reasons that may be the cause, but I think you really need to get your guy who configured it initially, back in.  He can look at things like signal strength to your PC's network card.

Let us know what the outcome is, I for one would be interested to know.

I am hoping to go wireless eventually so have looked with interest at your reply to the info RH gave you via her ipconfig all pathway. Could I ask - when I look at my pathway it says that my leasetime is set to 1 day ie from today til tomorrow- does that matter? Does it renew the lease everyday?

Hi Sue,

Can I assume that you are currently using dial up to access the internet?  If this is the case your settings are fine as the IP address is issued by your ISP. The address lease is renewed every time you make a connection.

This reads to me like you have a wired (ethernet) connection to the router. Are you running wired and wireless ?

As far as I know the set up has been left so that I could revert to my Alcatel ASDL connection in case of crisis - apart from that I have no idea [8-)]

Reading the info, you are on wired only, your PC has an address of 192.168.2.2 picked up from the dhcp on the router 192.168.2.1 which is also used as the source for dns.  That is all as it should be, and as you are not wireless then that is a red herring, and suggests your issues lie elsewhere, probably with the build on your pc.  Try working through this article and see if that helps, and you might want to get the firmware on the router and modem updated - try the manufaturers website for the updates.

 The guy who fitted the router has just been back, he added the router to Zone Alarms trusted sites and altered my email settings so that he was sure that it wasn't still looking for Alcatel and now the whole thing is much quicker.

Also added a password for the router.
