They will even take over you FT line if you prefer to report a problem in English, at a saving of about 1 Euro a month.

Worth considering

Can you explain the bit about the line please Jay? I was under the impression that you have to keep your FT line to go with Teleconnect.

Hi Jay,

ok, I have back tracked again and just looked at the Teleconnect site, its looks good but what do I do about the internet connection. Bearing in mind that I am still in the UK until 15th Feb, FT are going to my house to check my line out and get me connected on 26th January. If I sign up with Teleconnect which as you say could be better for the helpline, do they also need access to my house and computor for the live box bit and get the internet connected., As I said before, I dont know what I am talking about, but all I want to be able to do is my online banking as soon as I arrive in France and of course, get help from all you knowledgeable people,

Susie

Susie,

Please do not forget that, as well as an English speaking phone line, France Telecom have shops in all towns where you can go to get help or discuss problems face to face.  Many of these shops have someone on the staff who speaks English, and in my experience have always been very helpful.  For me this is an enormous advantage for FT.  After trying a cheaper and apparently better provider with disastrous results, I personally would not consider anyone other than FT.

I have had technical problems with FT, but they were sorted out rapidly and professionally, unlike a cheaper organisation which promised the earth until something went wrong, when they did not want to know.

A personal opinion only,

David

Quote:: After trying a cheaper and apparently better provider with disastrous results, I personally would not consider anyone other than FT:: End Quote.      Line charge FT € 16 per month.  Line charge a cheaper supplier (sic) € 15.90 per month. A saving of 10 centimes per month; I like your sense of humour.[;-)]

I have been with Free.fr for over a year and am relatively pleased with the service, the price of €29.99 per month for telephone (degroupée) television and internet seems to be a lot cheaper than the other offers mentioned here.

I have no complaints at all about the telephone service, it is free for all calls witin France to most countries except mobiles and even then the cost is far less than if you were calling the mobile from within that country, I think I pay a few centimes per minute to UK mobiles, calls to mobiles in the USA are free! The messagerie and advanced services all work well.

Internet - no problems at all, I have a very old and wheezy P166 computer with very little memory and am not techy so I dont know if it is fast or slow.

Television lots of great channels and the option to subscribe to ones like Vodeo where for 8 euros per month I have unlimited access  to documentaries uner the headings of Nature, decouverte, sciences, arts, sports, histoire, societé, loisirs, jeunesse etc, these are regularly added to. Some of the channels also have the option of changing the language to English but this is only works when there is a VO version of the film or programme.

The hard disc magnetophone (video recorder) is fantastic and has a massive storage capacity, there is also an area where customers post their own videos (the hard core porn has now gone) and youtube links etc, these can also be copied as favorites.

I do have some problems with audio feedback at low volumes which bugs me a bit, it is particularly noticeable when there are on screen displays, programme info, sound level etc, it may be my telly as no-one else that I know suffers.

My only real grudge is that often I have to redemarrer the tv box and the freebox to update the latest software, often there is no warning other than nothing will work until this is done, thereafter a lot of the menus and remote control commands will have changed and often a software upgrade is followed by several others to correct the errors made necessitating yet more reboots, that said it does seem to be less frequent and with less subsequent errors.

All of the equipment is wireless and there are 4 wifi channels available as well as a cabled computer connection.

I have had no problems with the phone line necesitating the intervention of Free or FT on their behalf but for me FT were absolutely useless beforehand when they cut through my line so I havn't really lost anything.

I appreciate that some people may be put off by the lack of English speaking help line etc but when I joined up my French was not very good and I had little confidence but I never needed to speak to anyone, I joined up on line which was relatively simple and easy to understand, they sent regular e-mails regarding the changeover and they handled all contact with FT.

I even managed to complete the computer software and hardware installation following their instructions in French (mainly by following the picture diagrams) and I am usually hopeless when it comes to computers even in my language.

No connections with them other than being a relatively happy customer.
