Fracture..a film about a collège

This film, which was shown last night on France 2 is set in a collège in a difficult suburb of Paris, but the classroom scenes are the most realistic representation of 'how it is' for a new teacher that I have seen in a while.

The over-dramatic ending spoils the film for my taste, but doesn't make it less valid as a portrait of the classroom situation.

Although the film takes place in a tough school I think it is important to realise that these conditions are often reproduced elsewhere: ask your children (if they are at college) if they recognise them [:)]

In the debate that followed two new young teachers commented, and one admitted to having given 3 good lessons since 'la rentrée'

It can be seen for 6 days here

Yes an excellent film, but what impressed me in 'Fracture' was seeing the teacher coming up against exactly the attitudes/techniques of disruption/casual incivilities etc as I experienced in the couple of years I did supply teaching.

In the Cantet film the  students are a bit older (in Lycée if I remember right) and he manages to get them into engaged discussion...
