Finding a Long Term Rental

Recommended Posts

My partner and I are having a very hard time finding a long term Rental. I understand the whole Holiday rental system, Been doing that for years in France.

But now we want to live year long in France. Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon, Limousin, Rhone Valley, areas would be our first choosing.

As you see we are open to the areas.

I am a designer and travel a great deal. Mostly Asia. And my partner is retired but is a Photographer and travels extensively also.

We would make great tenents.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Best regards,

Hi,

You really need to decide on an area in which you want to live. The regions you mention cover a huge range of choices. Then set up meetings and view properties with local agent immobiliers. Many have dealt with rentals in their areas for years and know the market inside out.  Even if you sign a 3 year rental agreement, you have the option to give notice so you are not tied in for ever.

As a landlord using an agent to rent through, I don't know what documentation is usually asked for but you will need some sort of references and possibly a French bank account. You will probably have to furnish it from scratch but that has to be cheaper than shipping stuff over from the US.

I understand the desire to live in France (obviously, as I do!!) but given the choice, I'd prefer to spend my winters in Georgia!

Good Luck.

Just as a point of information, we just moved to the Aude from Los Angeles. We shipped our household goods and our car in a single, 40-foot container and the cost including packing, delivery and set-up of furniture at this end, was slightly over $8,000. Just getting a new car would have cost more than that!

I am so surprised with the little assistance from this forum!

I would think with all the thousands of rentals in France, Someone would not want two outstanding people to rent and keep there home in good condition on a long-term basis.

We have many references and we are more then financial sound.

Again I will state my case, Looking for long term rental, Within the Bouches-Du-Rhone, Valcluse, Gard, or even as far center as Limousin areas. I know this seems like a broad area to cast a net, but seems the only way we can get any results.

If you want to know more about us, just ask. We would love to hear from anyone that can help in our search.

Best regards,

Mountain

Hi

It is not very clear from your two posts whether you are expecting someone on the forum to suggest you rent their house or if you want to know how to go about renting one in the long term. If it is the latter, I suggest you consult http://www.fnaim.fr/ and http://www.bonjour.fr/html/bonjour/index.php?C=I

both of which have advertisement for the areas you are interested in.

Good luck

Dear Mountain

I do not think the people who post on here intend to be unhelpful - I think it is that they cannot help. A lot of people have holiday homes which they will use themselves during the period you would like to rent ie the main summer holiday time in Europe.

We will be renting long term from 1 July but we found our house from the small adverts in the local paper . We looked around a few houses and chose the one that suited us best, even so we had to find temporary accommodation for 3 weeks up to 1 July as we had really wanted to start renting from 1 June.

So it is not as easy as you seem to think it is!

Regards

Sue

You are very unlikely to find long-term rentals without looking in a local paper.   Mosr long-term rentals are for local people - the number of foreigners wanting them is pretty low.   And those that are specifically aumed at foreigners are very expensive.   Why don't you rent a holiday home for a month or so while you look?  Or buy on-line access to a French local paper (though youre mre likely to find rentals in a freesheet which is unlikely to be available on-line).
