  2. I think that Lee Child has also said that although Reacher is physically bigger than TC,  Reacher's size is 'metaphorical' and he (LC) considers that TC will bring credibility and authority to his portrayal. The fact that TC is major box office and almost certainly guarantees the success of the film is, we are led to believe, a bonus.  To be fair, TC was better than I'd expected in his role as Lestat in 'Interview with a Vampire'. I always thought of a younger Rutger Hauer when picturing Reacher although Alexander Skarsgard, Josh Holloway or Matthew McConaughey are probably top of my list now.

  5. This gorgeous young cat is living in a demolition site and won't survive much longer. This is a link  to a french website which is trying to help him but they desperately need a safe place for him to live whilst they find him a permanent home. http://sos-siamois.forumgratuit.fr/t211-herman-1-an-ds-1-immeuble-qui-va-etre-demoli-pres-d-arras-62 If you think you can help in any way, PLEASE call Corine on 0673497755.  She speaks excellent English.
  6. Plasterers have been using scrim tape, in its various forms, for donkeys years because it doesn't crack. Use paper tape in corners (it's pre-folded for the purpose) and on flat butt joints. For all other joints use scrim/mesh tape. I have NEVER had a scrim taped joint crack - if a joint cracks then there's something wrong with your construction method, ie boards screwed directly to the underside of rafters is a normal cause of problems here. Paper tape can be used wet or dry. Beginers will find it easier to 'bed' wet tape - run it through your fingers like a squegge as you take it out of the water to squeeze of the excess first. Apply a thin band of filler to the joint and bed the tape into this with your filling knife, ensuring you use sufficent pressure to get the tape flat, but not so much that you squeeze out all the filler & leave nothing for the tape to stick to - wet paper tape will not stick to plasterboard on its own! Cover the joint with a thin coat of filler & leave to dry. Depending on your type of filler & level of experience it will take another 1 or 2 layers of filler to get a smooth joint that requires little or no sanding. If you need to use electrical sanders to finish your work then you're wasting time & filler. I'd rather spend an extra half a day on a large job ensuring I've applied my final coat well, than come back & face days of sanding - the client won't thank you for the dust either ;)
  7. I've been using the mesh/scrim tape on ceilings for years & never had a single problem. I don't have problems with the tape staying in place, but it depends how 'cleanly' you work. If the surface of your boards are covered in dust then you might have a problem getting it to stick. As already stated the paper tape is easier to 'hide' non-tapered joints.
  8. Sorry, not sure why??? Maybe I'm just being dense? I chose this nickname as purely by chance we've ended up with female cats....
  9. Having read through it seems that no-one considers the floor when discussing insulation. Plenty of people discussing walls & roofs, which are important of course, but many don't realise you can lose up to 20% due to an un-insulated floor. If you neglect this aspect then all the insulation in the world won't make your toes feel warm & snug on a cold winters evening :-)
  10. ......3rd October at Clussais la Pommeraie 79190. Thousands of secondhand books, most at € 1. Full details on Books & Literature section of this forum.
  11. +1 to Eric's sentiment. If the roles were reversed would you be happy looking at an unfinished wall? If not then you have your answer ;-)
  12. I & most of the french I work with use the large sacks of board adhesive, either Joker or MAP depending where you buy it. Cheap at €5 - €8 for 25kg, it fills to any depth, sets quickly & because it's an adhesive will also strengthen your repairs.
  13. Tight budget & class 4 treated timber aren't two terms that sit well together ;) When I've needed specific sizes for an outdoor project I have my local timber yard pressure treat a batch for me, but you do need to be buying quite a large quantity of timber for it to be cost effective. Or as suggested you'll just have to work with the sizes Brico depot sell to keep costs down. good luck :)

  15. Hi, just a thought, notwithstanding the other valid comments. Many large international removal companies deal with or subcontract out relocation services, mostly for the corporate market. There's a lot more to it than finding houses. It may be worth making enquiries.  What might be more difficult is getting a foot in the door without any specific training/experience e.g. some relocation companies deal with all sorts of issues including finanical planning and tax advice. Good luck.
