Mac
How do I go about re-registering a car bought through a private sale. I presume that as in the UK there is a part of the carte gris that is used to tell the authorities that the car has changed hands.Do I do it at the prefecture (or sous prefecture?) AnOther
As you mention carte grise I presume you are talking about a French registered car. If so you need:Certificate de Cessation signed by previous owner.Carte Grise crossed and signed by previous owner. If more than 4 years old a CT with more than 18 months remaining.Demande de certificat d'immatriculation.Proof of address and identity goes without saying of course plus cheque book. It's laid out here:http://vosdroits.service-public.fr/F1050.xhtmlYou can do it at a sous prefecture or prefecture. As you have already bought the car it's a bit late for a certificate non gage which basically certifies the car to be free of outstanding fines, HP, or other charges. Mac
Haven't bought the car yet-going to look at it tomorrow and just wanted to know what to do if we decide to buy. Thanks for the info.Should the owner be able to supply all of that including the certificate non gage?
AnOther
The certificate non gage is not obligatory and will probably only be provided if asked for. The current owner can get it online.I would expect a seller to provide a certificate de cessation, well I would, but at the same time it will do no harm to print off your own copy. It's in triplicate BTW, two for him and one for you.Dont forget the 18 months+ CT.All the forms are available here http://www.carte-grise.org/formulaires.htm and I forgot to mention that you can also apply for a new care grise online. Mac
Thank you. That site is very useful. Am I right in thinking that if a car has the new style registration that it does not need a new registration number but keeps the one it has? Sunday Driver
Just to clarify, AnO's link takes you to one of the commercial companies that are authorised to process carte grise applications. You still have to send them your application documentation so it's not quite a simple 'online' application and they will charge you a processing fee.The simplest and cheapest way is to apply to your prefecture for your new carte grise by post. You send off the documents mentioned by AnO above, but before doing so, you cut off the detachable coupon from the old carte grise and retain it so you are able to continue driving the vehicle whilst you wait for your new carte grise to arrive. As regards proof of identity, the prefecture will accept a photocopy of your passport as long as it is legible.http://vosdroits.service-public.fr/particuliers/F21031.xhtml
BobDee
And am I right to assume that to obtain a new carte grise, you also have to pay the local tax x cv rating of the car?
EuroTrash
Yes you are absolutely right in assuming this. That's why An0 said take your cheque book!
