New ensuite shower room

Could you offer some advice - what permission is needed to make a

corner of our downstairs bedroom into an ensuite with shower, sink and

wc? Also  - do we need to tell anyone that we are installing a

bath in place of an existing shower? Thanks

I had always thought that the ones who want to know these things, would

see that as an improvement to the house and thus want the extra revenue

as such? But as ever, the French will say nothing and leave it to the

next owners to put it on the form when they are asked to fill one in to

offer the size and quality of the said abode.

I think Miki's answer is spot on. Bathrooms, WCs  etc are one of the indicators of the "quality" of the house which has a direct impact on the tax situation the more bogs and baths you have the higher the tax you should pay.

Yes, but as no permission is required any tax increase will have to wait until the house changes hands or the next census

[quote user="Gyn_Paul"]How, exactly, would it change? Surely the T d' H is calculated on the sqm of habitable space isn't it ? So if you use a corner of a bedroom you've not altered the total.

I'm confused, me

Looking at our H1 form, they appear to use a point system - each sink has points - each wc - each bath - even fitting a shower above a bath adds extra points.

Terraces add points, abris add points - pools add points - sheds and garages - even the condition of the decor adds points.

And what do points make - in this case a bigger bill!!!

For example you should declare changes to any of these items the more you have the higher the tax

Actually I did know I was right and part of the reason being, in 4 places we

have bought and lived in, not one we bought was up to date as far as

taxe hab etc and the  way the house actually was. But, in everyone

we have lived in, not that long after our settling in...bosh, in the

post comes the old H1. Guaranteed, we will fill  in as the French

will do...average this, average that (does anyone live in a lovely top

condition nothing to do maison but mention all facilities [:)] )

The taxe hab has increased on every occasion for us once we have filled

in the H1. Sure when put in bathroms etc, invariably we will go a while

until we declare.....well, when in Rome and all that !!

Oh Bugger.  We filled in an H1 when we finished the conversion of the upstairs last year.  Of course, that was following a permis de construire.  Oddly, in 2 years here we have had no request for taxe d'hab though we have had taxe foncière.  Could this be to do with the 2 years free grace if you declare your works on time?  Or is it a bureaucratic oversight?  I've checked with the local Trésor and they say we owe nobody anything local tax-wise.

Cassis,

You know that film where they say "People will

come".........................well "Taxe Hab will come" and my bet is

in the next two months. The first year is normal to not receive it, as the previous owner

would have paid it, the second should see it arrive if not....are you

perhaps being billed with Taxe Professionnelle instead ?

If not, again, then "The Bill  will come" [;-)]
