7. hi ok   PoF                  Death watch beetle will only attack dry dead wood ....capricorne will only attack wood that has an 18 % water content     Dave [:)]
 8.
Most common beetles are the petite and grosse vrillettes, death watch, are the usual visitors; the petite adult appears from may and after mating the female lays eggs in rough areas of wood, the grosse vrillettes is earlier to appear in april so preventive treatment should be done soon, after varnishing chances of problems is remote. Termites and capricorns are less frequent but more serious. I live in deux sèvres and have not seen yet any beetles flying around looking for mates but with the clement weather they should be soon with us. All surfaces should be treated and/or varnished not just the visible surfaces.
Hi ok                They are capricone beetles not death watch ...pof                            Sorry Dave
 9. Hi ok  I have done a few to say the least back in the uk on both sand stone and brick.... be it a few years ago now and have only ever used spirit based products . You should only inject into the mortar layer if you have none porous bricks  ,we lived in N Wales and the local brick was Ruabon Reds best method for these was to drill into the brick at a slight angle so as to enter the frog and then inject if you need to inject in to the brick as a stretcher you have to drill in 1/3 then inject and re-drill to 2/3 rds and inject again . For porous brick inject into the brick direct , we used to do a bit of a sales gimmick  we had a London red brick injected with that much silicone we used to drop it into a tank of water and it would float , used to get us  the job no problem .... trouble is with the water based stuff you have to get it right first because try a second time and it`s become water proof so will not take a second coat . we also had some old lances that we fitted bent pipes and funnels too and leave them full over night to do step type damp course............but remember you used to get a 25 year guarantee certificate with every tub of dpc ...   [:)]                  Dave
 10. The Little Paper Bag              "Doctor, I don't feel too good," said the little paper bag. "Hmm, you look OK to me," said the Doctor, "but I'll do a blood test and see what that  shows, come back and see me in a couple of days."   The little paper bag felt no better when he got back for the results.   "What's wrong with me?" asked the little paper bag.   "I'm afraid you are HIV positive!" said the doctor.   "No, I can't be - I'm just a little paper bag!" said the little paper bag.   "Have you been having unprotected sex?" asked the doctor.   "NO, I can't do things like that - I'm just a little paper bag!"   "Well have you been sharing needles with other intravenous drug users?" asked the doctor.   "NO, I can't do things like that - I'm just a little paper bag!"   "Perhaps you've been abroad recently and required a jab or a blood transfusion?" queried the doctor.   "NO, I don't have a passport - I'm just a little paper bag!"   "Well", said the doctor, "are you in a homosexual relationship?"   "NO! I told you I can't do things like that, I'm just a little paper bag!"   "Then there can be only one explanation." said the doctor.   your mother must have been ....                                     A Carrier

Check out this DRIRE ruling on the classification of bikes with electric assistance: http://www.velo-electrique.com/Images/lettre_drire.JPG The bike will be classed as a bicycle rather than a cyclomoteur, provided that the motor ceases to function whenever: - the cyclist stops pedalling - the speed reaches 25km/h - the brake is applied. Twist grips or any other device which would allow the bike to move on its own are prohibited.   hi ok                        sorry SD your info is only 14 years out of date .....very very funny for you ..                                     Dave
No it isn't.  The DRIRE letter may be dated 1998, but the requirements are current for France - as the rest of your post goes on to confirm.  Finally, I'm not sure why your explanation about the situation in the UK would be relevant to Racerbear's query which concerned the legal position in France....
hi ok       I can not be ...they have up the wattage from 200 to 250 since 1998 ???                 Dave

Legally, the motor must stop assisting you when you reach 15.5 mph (25 km/h). Of course, you can pedal faster than that, and it's certainly possible to go faster than that downhill, so the top speed is up to you. A good comfortable speed for general commuting and riding about town is between 10-15 mph, so the motor should assist you whenever you need it. What's the legal position on electric bikes? There are a number of key features which define an electric bicycle in law. Although there's currently a little UK/EU confusion in the regulations, the de facto rules are that the machine must not weigh more than 40kg, the motor power must not exceed 250 Watts, and the motor must cut out at 15.5mph. In addition, it must have working pedals, and meet the relevant standards for a normal bicycle. Currently, there is a definite difference between UK and European regulations in terms of power control. In the UK, it is still legal for the throttle to be operated without the pedals turning (so that you may ride on power alone), whereas in Europe, the pedals must be turning for the power to be applied. It's likely that the UK will soon come into line with European standards for new bikes, but that anything currently legal will remain legal. A rider must be over 14 years old to ride an electric bike, but they are not required to pay Vehicle Excise Duty, register the bike, have insurance or wear a helmet. An electric bike may use the same cycle facilities as a normal bike - such as off-road cycle paths, Advanced Stop Lines at traffic lights, designated cycle crossings and so on. And of course, they can use the roads, unless bikes are prohibited (such as is the case on motorways). Although you are not required to have insurance, it may be wise to insure your bike against theft and damage anyway. It is also possible to get third party insurance, in case you damage someone else's property while on your bike
20.

Can anyone advise what is the legal position regarding these in France please?  I am talking about push bikes which have auxiliary electric motors to ease hill climbing etc. Do they need to be registered? Do they need to be insured? Do you have to wear a motorcycle, or indeed any, safety helmet? Any other regulations?  or are they totally illegal?
1. no 2. no 3. no 4. no
Hi Ok                               Sorry but it should be .   1 no  2 no  3 no 4 yes                        You can have max 250 watt motor  (300 for trike or trailor type ones ) max speed is 15 mph from the assist and you have to be moving for the assist to work .. rules are nearly the same as the uk  but the uk allow a twist grip like speed controller  good site here http://www.electricbikesales.co.uk/                                   Dave
 21. Hi Ok                     Think you will find as from the 1st of next month a lot of old Uk electrical products will no longer work here in France , EDF in a bid to combat the solar storms we are about to receive are going to reverse the supply , (it will flow from South to North ), this change has been going on for a few years now thats why they have NF ( North Frequencised ),stamped on electrical products  , it will mean that you will have to wire you plugs up Nutral -live reversed , battery operated products are the worse affected ..ie drills will work backwards when in forward etc ..so be warned                               Dave
 22.
If you think about it the answer is self evident. Rainwater is relatively pure so why on earth would you want to channel it through your fosse septique where it can only possibly become contaminated - simples! All the rainwater from my property, plus the grey water from the showers and washing machine etc, go into a large recuperation tank which we then use for watering the garden and in the pressure washer etc.
hi ok                      It`s the grey water from the showers , washing machines, etc that causes the pollution ...This is the water that should go into the fosse ... human waste is actually good for the land /////////// have a re think  look up phosphate damage                             Dave
 23. A police motorcycle officer stops a driver for shooting through a red light. The driver is a real bar steward, steps out of his car and comes striding toward the officer, demanding to know why he is being harassed by the Gestapo! So the officer calmly tells him of the red light violation. The motorist instantly goes on a tirade, questioning the officer's ancestry, sexual orientation, etc., in rather explicit offensive terms. The tirade goes on without the officer saying a dickybird. When the officer finishes writing the ticket he puts an "AH" in the lower right corner of the narrative portion of the ticket. He then hands it to the 'violator' for his signature. The bloke signs the ticket angrily, and when presented with his copy points to the "AH" and demands to know what it stands for. The officer says, "That's so when we go to court, I'll remember that you're an arsehole." Two months later they're in court. The 'violator' has a bad driving record and he has a heap of points and is in danger of losing his licence, so he hired a barrister to represent him. On the stand the officer testifies to seeing the man run through the red light. Under cross examination the barrister for the defence asks;"Officer is this a reasonable facsimile of the ticket that you issued to my client?" The police officer replies: "Yes, sir, that is the defendant's copy, his signature and mine, same number at the top." Barrister: "Officer, is there any particular marking or notation on this ticket you don't normally make?" "Yes, sir, in the lower right corner of the narrative there is an "AH," underlined." "What does the "AH" stand for, officer?" "Aggressive and hostile, Sir." "Aggressive and hostile?" "Yes, Sir.” "Officer, are you sure it doesn't stand for arsehole?" “Well, sir, you know your client better than I do.”   ~~~~ How often can one get a lawyer to convict his own client~~~~
