1. I am seriously looking forward to getting an electric car!  On the list at the moment is the Kia eNiro 64kw near 300 miles (bit less at higher speed)  Brakes last a lot longer through regenerative braking rather than friction. Other parts mentioned do not wear out that soon but off the list are oils, filters (fuel, air & oil) brakes, cam belts, head gaskets, clutches, dual mass flywheels, exhausts, injectors, spark plugs etc etc. Let fossil cars become museum pieces, their funny engines that accelerate the piston to high speed stop it dead and send it back up again. Plenty of companies now testing solid fuel battery cells and that will be the game changer. VW are going to produce EV's without all of the additional electronics so the price will be very comparable to fossil cars.
2.
Cheques, well use them all the time in France to pay subs to organisatons etc, no way are they past there sell-by date here.
They are at least a written contract! [:D]
3. Betty, could it be as a result of some French person issuing the mandate that all transfers over €1000 have to be that way as cash amounts above that level are not allowed any more. I thought cheques were ok as they give an audit trail, but as ever one accountants version of what was stated could be different to another.
4. Being close to a chateau we had to apply to the batiment de France not a simple h1. Being only 1.8m from the boundary on two sides made no difference and the application went through. Seems they make up whatever they want. Our French neighbours, born in the village did not apply or tell the Mairie and put it down as a reservoir, no problem for him as he utilised the old under 100m3 no permission is necessary.
5. Never understood why glace cherries was a problem as they were invented in France?
6. It's mostly taped joints as the wall paper or other stays up for about 40 years and often papered over again because they didn't skim the boards they can't take it down.
7. Warning!! If you do follow that simple trick the government will continue to lower it until you don't. They need the money!
8. Ford took a polygraph test and passed as telling the truth.
9.
And the irony that they want to leave the UK which is trying to limit immigration, to live as immigrants in another country, is a bit lost on them.
[:)][:D][:)]
10. Hi Bonnie, I spoke to my insurers, they are happy for me to sweep my own chimney and I just make a note of the date for the record. There have been a number of posters on lots of forums who incorrectly state "it's the law" you have to sweep a minimum of once per year, more if you use it more often. Of course if swept properly there is very little chance of a chimney fire.
11. Find someone with a bore scope camera so they can inspect the flue without disassembly. I do this after I have swept the chimney to make sure I have done a good job, Pros don't. Haha
12. Just another thick American, (like their president) who thinks we would love to pay the high shipping charges.
13.
Hello Theire, It's an Insert with 2 fans which come on automatically when the temperature gets up.  There is a booster if I want extra but it's noisy.   I don't have any filters to change.   Should there be filters in the side vents in the chimney breast?
I thought it was but safer to check.  No, no filters. The warm air chambers should be completely separate from the combustion chamber. Personally I don't like the older Invictors as I have repaired the in-laws too many times. It could be a failed seal (fire rope etc) causing combustion air to escape into the warm air chambers. A pro needs to take a look but a sweep won't have enough between the ears to diagnose the problem. CO alarms are best at the height you sit/lie down at. if you lie on the floor so be it [:)] When you purchase your wood, they should be able to tell you how long it's been air drying and it needs to be around 2 seasons but better than that buy a wood moisture meter and check it, dryer the better but definitely lower than 20% moisture. For an idea of how the flue should be;http://www.poujoulat.fr/fr/nos-solutions/maison-individuelle/ameliorer/distribution-air-chaud/confort-puisage-hotte
14. As Nick said, very worrying. Is this a stand alone stove or built in? Room air should always be separate to combustion air so no soot should be anywhere in your room.
15. Makes next to no difference, a 1000w heater is the same as another, just choose the look. The only comfort difference is some can have a small fan inside that helps circulate warm air as radiant heat is quite poor 2ft max and convection requires some air movement. Forced convection via small fan warms the room quicker. There are some infra red panel rads which heat the people more than the room but quite costly and run at higher temperatures.
Teapot wrote: Not surprised after the UK has whapped their sorry asses in every cycling event I take it you gave the Tour of Britain a miss, then??
Please don't interrupt me when I am on a xenophobic charge. Lol, naturally I ignored any UK negatives like world cup football, rugby or cricket.
17. Not surprised after the UK has whapped their sorry asses in every cycling event!![:D]
18. If the goods show signs of use, and of course are going to return to the UK, (wink) then they will escape import duty post Brexit, if it happens.
19. They like to pay the RRP in France or higher. You will get big savings buying in the UK
20. As you'll have Wooly as a neighbour, maybe cut your losses and move somewhere else lol
21. If you can't find anyone or the cost is too high look at "Peel Away" it removes loads of coats in one go, is environmentally friendly and user friendly unlike nitromors
