  1. If the Italian olive growers get the EU to put them on the list of birds that can be hunted they will be . It seems they cause a lot of damage to growing olives. We had better stock up reports are of a big increase in the price of olive oil to come our way soon http://www.oliveoiltimes.com/olive-oil-business/europe/after-olive-fruit-fly-and-blight-the-starling/44933

That's the only way I know to do it as Chrome does not do "blue linkey things " for me .

  5. When it comes to daily train travel and I have had years of it I am with Betty all the way on this . I know and have seen what happens when the rack fails and carriages pile up. I would be happy have a day or two of overrun disruption knowing the end result is the track work has been done properly had been inspected and signed off as safe to be used if I am hurtling down it at a hundred miles an hour . . Betty is right things can and do go wrong with big planned railway projects unforeseen means exactly that. Had the snow that the north of England had come South turning out to be not forecast and unforeseen .....and ....the track was still out of use this morning then no doubt that would have been the railways fault as well .

  8. I imagine he is hoping for a hung parliament So he can put together a bunch of MP's he can control . Then make it so difficult to pass any bill unless he gets another in out referendum for Scotland He will make it impossible for the government to work . He is already saying that there should be no vote on EU membership as Westminster cannot speak for Scotland on the matter and they should have their own referendum on that alone and has not got into Westminster yet He has changed his mind about there NOT being another referendum for Scotland in a generation and is now saying he will see one . If he gets into Westminster all we will hear about out is Scotland Scotland Scotland .

  11. Alex Salmond is a bad loser . He was convinced he was going to be President of Scotland Having failed to pull that off . Now he is seeking to cause as much disharmony as he can be it in or out of the Houses of Parliament by winding up the English to a point they they tell him and the troublesome Scots to P.Off .
  12. Nomoss Wrote : Ah, you mean the Visa link which you "just" referred to as "more ammo handed to UKIP" Well they have commented .........as I expected Ukip MEP and spokesman on immigration Steven Woolfe said the European judges' ruling had struck another blow against Britain's power to control its borders. Mr Woolfe said: "Britain will be forced to recognise residence permits issued by any EU member state, even though the system of permits is wide open to abuse and fraud. "This ruling extends the so-called 'right to free movement' to millions of people from anywhere in the world who don't have citizenship of any country of the EU. "This is yet more proof that Britain can never take back control of its borders as long as it remains in the European Union. "The ECJ, like every other EU institution, is determined that Britain will never take back control of its borders."
  13. I remember their promises of a land of milk and honey if they won the vote was all based on an oil price that stayed at about $113 .... A lot of their supporters today must be glad they lost as they would be facing tax increases and more job losses .

  15. Yep Crazy ...... Plus also today more ammo handed to UKIP....over free movement The EU's supreme court said the UK government can no longer require entry visas in advance for non-EU citizens who are family members of EU citizens and hold residence rights in other EU states. http://www.rte.ie/news/2014/1218/667638-eu-court-visa/

  18. I was led to believe that if a shop stayed open or opened earlier and failed to keep to the closure times they could be " dobbed in " by other traders and face a penalty .
  19. I have noticed when talking with my neighbors over getting parts on line and delivered to repair stuff. They would rather drive miles for a part or replace the item . I had assistance from my neighbor to get a part on line that I wanted and was delighted at how much I was saving including postage . When I suggested they save the site for future use they said no as they would never ever disclose their bank card details even to Paypal . Is this common practice compared with us Brits buying stuff on line ?

    Torture

It seems they think they covered their backs years ago, From GVH Live Post-9/11, when the Bush administration first authorized the use of enhanced interrogation techniques against detainees, the Justice Department penned a series of memos detailing their legal justification for the use of these interrogation practices. A February 2002 memo, for instance, stated that Al-Qaeda and Taliban detainees were not protected from torture by the Geneva Convention. This order was extended to cover all detainees held as part of the War on Terror in 2006. Also in 2002, John Yoo, the Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the United States, and Assistant Attorney General Jay S. Bybee provided the White House with a set of legal memos claiming enhanced interrogation techniques were not severe enough to be considered torture, and therefore the U.S. could not be punished for using them. The memos also stated that actions taken outside of U.S. soil, including at the detention center at Guatanamo Bay, were not subjected to U.S. laws banning torture.

    Torture

From New Republic a US publication In 2010, Lawrence Wilkerson, the former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, testified in federal court about the known innocence of several Guantánamo prisoners. “It became apparent to me as early as August 2002, and probably earlier to other State Department personnel who were focused on these issues, that many of the prisoners detained at Guantanamo had been taken into custody without regard to whether they were truly enemy combatants, or in fact whether many of them were enemies at all,” he said. He continued, “We relied upon Afghans...and upon Pakistanis, to hand over prisoners whom they had apprehended or who had been turned over to them for bounties, sometimes as much as $5,000 per head. Such practices meant that the likelihood was high that some of the Guantánamo detainees had been turned in to U.S. forces to settle local scores, for tribal reasons, or just as a method of making money.” Who is going to get US money today ?... UN convention on torture requires any prisoner tortured by a member state to be compensated ... A lot of money is going to have to be found when the claims start coming in .

Wikileaks Oct 2010 ....If they had not let the cat out of the bag then Obama would not be saying what he is today about "mistakes " torture and the CIA being out of control .
