1.
Groslard - I'm very interested in local affairs but I'm afraid I can't get too worked up by local press articles in either country, though I accept that some do. for now.
You mentioned a 1 side view.   i do think that many English in France still read English news and dont follow French news in the same detail.  As English news is full of woe, and they dont see the French equilvalent, it is natural that they think the same problems do not exist in France.   France in the English papers is either stereotyped or full of praise eg the French go on strike for their rights and always get what they want etc, and they believe that.
 2.
Wouldnt life be strange if we were all clones?
No, because we would all think the same way if we were all clones.   It would all seem very normal.
 3.
This is a forum and I would like to think that it offers freedom of speach
It does in theory, until someone has a bad experience in France for some reason and then they get jumped on by people who think that is not allowed and not possible and is somehow stamping on their dreams.   There dreams can not be very solid.
 4.
I think most intelligent people realize that every country has good and bad points
You might be surprized at what intelligent people think.   Le Pen is intelligent.
 5. Yes, they're following the dream of being able to work for a living.  A vast majority of English expats in France are following their dream of not having to work for a living.
 6. Chandeleur was 2nd Feb.  http://www.chandeleur.net/chandeleur.html  But there's nothing to stop you celebrating Mardi Gras too.  [:)]
 7.
I was hoping to persuade my wife to move with our 2 girls aged 9 & 12. We plan on looking around the area of Baillurgues due to the bilingual school being there.
Have you visited Baillargues?  Like much of that area, it is mostly lotissement, and growing.   It's also right next to Junction 28 of the A9 motorway, one of France's busiest motorway sections.  If you want "dream" France, with cheap property and low house tax and hectares of land, Baillargues probably isn't the place for you.   Nor do they give petrol away, it's hovering around 1.30 euros a litre right now, give or take a couple of centimes.
 8. Well done, Puca and Mr Celestine.  You're right, it's not all doom and gloom.   As we all know from living in England, there is always work available for immigrants.   It's a very good system.   The immigrants are happy to have work, and the locals are glad not to have to do those jobs.  Everyone's a winner!  Bonne continuation.  :-)
 9. It is a recognised problem, and isn't committed just by insecure individuals, but sometimes by entire teams of co-workers. There are many webpages devoted to it.  Here's one http://www.doctissimo.fr/html/psychologie/mag_2001/mag0112/ps_2809_harcelement_moral.htm
