1. Hello I found myself in a similar situation with a french plumber when I first arrived in France and after taking advice from my then prof at Uni I sent a letter stating I had taken legal advice and due to his failure to start the works in a reasonable time he was in breach of contract and I would be seeking legal recourse to have the devis cancelled.  He called me on receipt of the registered letter and started the next day, it was a large contract for 4 cetral heating systems so he had a lot to lose, he was always a pain in the rear though and I would never now sign a devis without a start date and expected completion date.   Panda
2. But, but but.....I have a copy which clearly shows my figure in the right box and I compared it to the one from last year, so it can't be finger trouble on my part.  I must admit I thought it was was when I first saw it.  I have checked the filed copy on the site, the 2042 and supps all show my figure, the Avis does not. I will go and find a bod in the tax office to see what they think.  It makes no odds really tax wise as I am working off a big surplus from renovations but the figure does normally show.
3. Do you think they rekey the online submissions, surely not?? Hold on though this is France why am I acting surprised, I have yet to come across a fully integrated system for doing anything here!
4.
Incidentally, the portage company in my link makes a flat 50% of invoice value (plus TVA) deduction.
How do they take account of the allowances (abatement) for the micro in a portage.  If I had to give 50% of every invoice away I would be well out of pocket compared to being an independent mico.  Perhaps I've misunderstood as this would be 50% of gross income not taxable as I read it.
5.

Thanks wooly!  Looking forward to the lowdown ...![;-)]
But, how can you be sure you can trust Wooly and believe all that he tells you?
you can't and you can't![:P] We could all do with a good Troll, gets everybody going.
6. Hmm, I filled in my tax return online and I also think that despite me completing all of the correct areas my income from rentals does not appear on the Avis which turned up recently.  I went on to check that I had transferred the figures from the revenue fonciere working document to the main return and I had.  It is exactly the same as last years but this one figure has not been taken into account. So can we assume that despite the completion being online some kind of clunky data transfer takes place when  they produce the final document??
7. Under option 2 of Will's post (self employed) the combination of tax an NI equiv comes out at about 25% of gross income on a micro regime.  As has been discussed many times this is about the same as the combo of UK tax and NI. I am currently operating exactly as Will has laid out in option 2 doing exactly what you are doing and have been for 5 years with no problems.  For me it was the only viable option as my employer did not want a french subsidiary. I also agree with Will about not going too far back with your declaration.
8. Lovely story puzzled, I cna picture the poor wee thing!  It sounds to me like the dogs are interested not hostile, I know mine would be curious and playful if a kittten turned up, you just have to watch how playful they become! I would also love to see a picture.  Well done for taking it on, must be like having a new born baby!
9. Oh my goodness, I love him, he is the image of my last adoption who is part griffon,  sadly though as it has taken a long time for my old spaniel now 13 to accept the female griffon I could not put him through it again.  I would say to anyone though that she is by far and away the most loving, sweet dog I have ever owned and having now read up on the subject it is standard in a Griffons nature to be loyal and gentle, she has never shown aggression depsite being chased by my dog,  goats and cat on occasion.  My next dog will be a Griffon x and I hope someone sees this and falls in love with those eyes!
10.
Hi Emmarc, we listed our hotel and house here with various Immobilier over 18 months back and, with the exception of one UK-based estate agency, have found them all disappointing. Very often our listing would disappear from their sites after a month. What we have since done in the last couple of months is list ourselves on some online property websites which enable you to place a good sized ad with photos for absolutely free. We now have the result we were waiting for after a steady stream of enquiries - the immobilier brought no results at all. We will be saving ourselves between 30-50K euros commission. I'd say more people are searching online now rather than walking into estate agents offices. I suggest you do this asap - it's free and you've nothing to lose. Its worked for us!
Hi Jura Where did you list your property?  Sounds like you did very well in the current market, well done!  Panda
11.
Mr Sunday bought a set of pendant earrings recently at Geant in Niort t......[:)]
do you wear a matching necklace with those SD??
12.
That is good news for little Charlie. I hate to say something negative about this but I can't help but worry about him going to a family that has three large Dobermans. I hope he will be OK. Just wish I could have taken him. Please let us know how he settles in with his new family. Gail, well done for saving him in the first place.
I know how you feel but having recently met the woosiest dog ever I can say that dobermans can be as gentle as any other dog.  She wouldn't pass a barking ball of fluff  about the size of a Westie that we encountered whilst walking her and actually got chased by it, the funniest sight ever.
13.
Hi Any idea what these creatures were? Rich [8-)]
Orrible???
14.
I understand from reading back posts in this forum that income is taxed in the country in which it originates.  If someone is in the French tax system, with tax on normal income being paid in France, but then does some consultancy work entirely within the UK for a UK company and is paid in the UK, then presumably this income is declared in the UK and tax on it is payable in the UK.  In this case it it possible to set the income against UK personal allowances - or do these personal allowances disappear if one becomes tax resident in another country?  Your thoughts/advice appreciated! Val
Hi Val Your question is similar to mine yesterday and it sounds like you are planning on doing the same.  I will let you know if I find out more but from what I understand so far, if you're working in the UK you pay tax and NI on your income, you declare it as income taxed in a foriegn country on your french tax return alongside declaring your french based income as normal.  Normal allowances are applied in the UK. I am planning be employed by the UK company rather than self-employed as I think that would add further complications.  What are your thoughts on that side of things? Panda
15.
Do you really need to feel as poor as I do or can you just afford to carry on as normal?  If you can, then I do envy you enormously.
How much worse off are you in real terms?  I would be interested to know if the measures you are taking save more than you are losing with the exchange rate. Your post made me think of you sitting with your jumper on, hair down to your knees, dog eating blue stripe food with a grimace.. quite depressing really. I am worse off although I haven't noticed it, or perhaps I have ignored it...  you are wiser no doubt but I feel happier in ignorance
16. I had exactly the same experience with Leclerc last week.  I was all ready for a row but no, faulty item was taken new one was given with a smile and an apology, I nearly fainted!
17. I thought about it but I would have to go out in the rain to get the wood, the weather this year has been so weird, last night I was riding in t-shirt at 8.30 and was hot, it was beautiful, today it's like December!
18. Hi Thanks Will.  I'm not worried about tax in France, just wondered if I would have to pay more in cotisations?  I have a good 25 years until retirement age so if I paid UK NI and into the french system via cotisations for that length of time I should have a fair few points.  I understand also that you can covnert points from one to other which should mean I would have enough to get something back. Hmm, lots ot think about. EDIT: I would only spend 3 months in the UK Panda
19. Hello Does anyone have any experience of working both in the UK and France during a tax year?  I am currently self employed registered as profession liberale and have been offered work for a UK company which would be on a UK contract, taxed etc. in the UK.  I'm thinking I will just declare income from another country on my tax return and that no further deductions will take place.  I am up to the limit on my micro in terms of turnover so not sure how it would be viewed.  Thoughts anyone? EDIT a further thought, would my pension fund grow in both countries giving me the best of both worlds.. Panda

Doggy poop bags!!

You can now get nappy sacks in Auchan, they are highly scented which helps a lot if you can't find a bin close by!
21. There are qiute a few fat woman in this part of rural France too.  One thing I have noticed going back to the point made about walking around in a swimming costume, we have an outdoor pool here which has a number of diving boards and also a lake beach with a huge slide.  I have just realised that it's only me that uses these things (with my son), I have never seen another woman on either of them, how odd is that?
22. Last year a dear old car we had gave up living on a long journey whilst OH was at the wheel.  He called the insurance company who kindly sent a garge out to recover him etc..  The car was then inspected and all decided it was passed help.  OH can't speak a great deal of french and so between the insurance company and the garage they sorted out the necesary, having the vehicle towed to a scrap yard, marking the carte gris and sending it off to where ever it has to go.  They sent OH home in a taxi , 4 hours later he turns up, that was the end of it. Today, almost a year to the day the insurance renewal turns with the old car still listed.  I ring the insurance company and tell them it was scrapped, you did it I say, you paid for it even, you sent OH home in a cab, etc.etc.  They say they can't take the insurance off unless I can send them proof it was scrapped...  So anyone know where can I get it from??  I don't even know which garage it was, it was 4 hours from home and I've moved since then so any paperwork issued could be anywhere!
23. Hello I've parked for a week in both recently.  In Bordeaux the offsite long duration parking (not far away, short free bus ride) is about 35 euros for a week.  In Bergerac the parking is at the airport and is about 29 euros for a week. So neither are difficult or expensive, I would always opt for Bordeaux airport personally as Bergerac was heaving and chaotic on my last trip, I always find Bordeaux much more civilised, could be luck though! 24. As with everything in France it comes down to who is asking the questions.  I know of someone who has sold in France with no requirement for a Tax Avis and paid no CGT.  The notaire knew the people haivng dealt with another matter for them so maybe was happy to say they were resident with no other proof, they have never registered for anything and yet got away with not paying CGT and yes their car is still on UK plates!  One of them also had a fall during DIY and broke an arm, it was fixed at the hospital on an UK EHIC, no questions asked!
25. I studied French as a foreign language at Uni here in France, we had at least 14 nationalities in my class and as has been said the teacher could not have known all of the languages involved.  The only common language was French.  Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese made up a large number of the class and lived in France for 3 years arriving with little or no French.  So the prof not speaking the languages was not a barrier to learning in fact it made sure that no one spoke in their mother tongue, none of us would have understood each other! The problem the OP will have is that her students can all speak a common language and so they will, all the time she will not have a clue what they are saying or who it is about!
