1. Good evening all, Can anyone help with the address to cancel my FT phone line. Is it the same address as the Orange internet supplied in the sticky above. Your help would be appreciated. Steve[:)]
2. You need the IMEI number before you can unlock your phone. Check http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/474187 (why can't I add a link in Firefox) for information.
3. Why do they have a monthly charge for the battery, it's like buying a petrol/diesel car and then having to rent the engine. Seems a daft way of selling a car.
4. Ebay seems to be a good source of headlights, that's where I sourced mine from when I changed ours.
5. I have used online companies for car, motorbike and house (all found through assurland) with no problem. They just needed proof of NCD from previous insurers (one company wanted 2 years proof and the other wanted 3 years proof) sent to them and they did accept proof from the UK. I got the full 50% no claims here in France. PM me if you want to know who I use. The 50% rate is built up over thirteen years in France, so if you have anything less than 13years NCD the scale goes down, although as said above they just accepted 2 or 3 years NCD proof from the UK.
6. Use by dates on those I purchased at LeClerc on Friday were 2015.
7.

Then please indicate where on the image, a Port light is indicated? Your sarcastic wit is not appreciated.[:@]
There is a round very visible red object stuck to the side of the boat.
I think you need your eyes tested if you think that visible red object is a light................its a life raft!!!!!
8. Which ever deal you go for you will need a French bank account to pay the fees due.
9. It's always been the same with Google chrome also.
10. Must disagree with electrical goods from Amazon.co.uk We have ordered laptop and freesat box from them and they have delivered to us in France without any problem.
11. There are a couple of suppliers when you Google them Try http://www.astra2connect.com/
12. Sid. You are against but have never used it strange thing to say!!!! the reason why so few people use it because it is new technology (to France). Changing to anything orange has to offer is a no brainer for me. It wont increase my speed and will still keep dropping out every month..
13.
The current crop of Satellite Internet deals via the relatively new ka-sat offer up to 10mb download and 4mb upload, but cheap they ain't. Initial installation costs can be in the €300 range and the monthly sub as much as €84. There are cheaper offers of course.
Some of the monthly fees quoted include the cost of the satellite kit for €34 pm inclusive. I was just trying to get an insight into the fors and against of going down this route and at the moment I have one for and one against so early days.
14. Hi, I am looking into the possibility of having my internet via satellite. Seems to me to be cheaper and a lot faster...Anyone out there have it yet and what are the fors and againsts.. At the moment I have internet via a livebox with a speed approaching 512mbits if I'm very lucky... I live in the sticks and am about 7.5km from the nearest exchange. It's costing me around €30 a month plus the line rental and at least once a month I loose internet connection and have to contact Orange to get it sorted. Thanks in advance
15. I notice my French bank card is due to expire in September this year. My question is does the bank automatically send out new ones as per the UK banks. I bank with Caisse d'Epargne and pay a fee to have the card. thanks in advance.
16. They seem to be spending a lot of money on erecting the Speed Camera signs in my area if they are then going to pull them down in the next few months or so... We have just recently had installed on the N147 in St Bonnet de Bellac 2 new cameras both with signage and I also noticed today that there is another new one in the middle of Lussac les Chateau with new signage. Seems a waste of money if you ask me....
17.

I have been told that the French Peages have/are changing over to unmanned booths so that you may use any booth whether you use cash, card or telepeage.
Unmanned booths are hardly a new development. Could "the complete incomprehension of many of the French" have been caused by "several solo driven RHD vehicles in lanes with the slots all on the passenger's side"?
What I understand was that most if not all the booths are becoming unmanned!!!
18. I have been told that the French Peages have/are changing over to unmanned booths so that you may use any booth whether you use cash, card or telepeage. A friend went back to the UK Easter Monday and in his opinion it failed miserably, not helped by more queues forming than the number of functioning pay machines at most pay stations, and the complete incomprehension of many of the French, ably helped by the non-French, to understand what went where, how often, or why! Result, very slow throughput, long queues, much shuffling between lanes, and several solo driven RHD vehicles in lanes with the slots all on the passenger's side (a proportion have slots both sides, but impossible to detect which from the ends of the queues): in short a chaotic waste of time with 30 minutes being the worst delay. Anyone else hear about this. Steve
19. EDF will take the correct payment according to your meter reading, it usually takes a few weeks from the meter reading. If like us you pay bi-monthly then EDF only adjusts the payments after the bi-yearly meter readings the rest of the year the reading is estimated which is usually higher than the actual reading.
20. Went to the garage and 10 minutes and €18 later new number plate fitted. it appears that the old rivet had snapped. Job done.
21.
Make sure that you have your carte grise with you when you go, I know that you are always supposed to have it with you,but make sure that you do. They will ask for it when you get the plate, or at least that is what happened to us when we changed plates.
Carte Grise is always in the car so will have it when we get there.
22. Yes, I have to risk it and i'm off to get another one made up in a couple of minutes. Lets hope the rivets hold this one on........
23. I noticed this morning that the front number plate on my car has fallen off. Can I drive the car to get another one made up or do I need to put some kind of temporary plate on to drive it?
24.    If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah.  *        If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Dickhead and Shit for Brains.    EATING OUT  *        When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in £20, even though it's only for £32.50.  None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back.  *        When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.    MONEY  *        A man will pay £2 for a £1 item he needs.  *        A woman will pay £1 for a £2 item that she doesn't need but it's on sale.    BATHROOMS  *        A man has six items in his bathroom: toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel.  *        The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337.  A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these items.    ARGUMENTS  *        A woman has the last word in any argument.  *        Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.    FUTURE  *        A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.  *        A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.    SUCCESS  *        A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.  *        A successful woman is one who can find such a man.    MARRIAGE  *        A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.  *        A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, but she does.    DRESSING UP  *        A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the bins, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.  *        A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.    NATURAL  *        Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.  *        Women somehow deteriorate during the night.    OFFSPRING  *        Ah, children.  A woman knows all about her children.  She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favourite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.  *        A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.     THOUGHT FOR THE DAY  A married man should forget his mistakes.  There's no use in two people remembering the same thing!
