I know this is a bit late but, out E106 ran out today, tomorrow I am going to phone and try to extend it. Is it possible to apply to the CMU by internet or post, the reason being (and why this problem had slipped slightly) is that we are in England at the moment and have been since the end of October, we are returning to France in mid March, unless we have to return earlier. I think we thought like others, that there would be a letter from the CPAM telling us that we were about to be left without healthcare, but of course this has not arrived. I do have type 2 diabetes, so am hoping that CPU will take me on, but I am not sure if the fact that we have signed on to the French tax system and we do run a gite counts as being active. The other thought is that as my wife is 60 in October we might manage till then......?
Peter, If you can extend your E106 you won't need the CMU, you will get state healthcare from the régime génerale as you did until today. Phone the CLEISS english-speaking helpline 08 20 90 42 12 (unless your french is good in which case phone your CPAM) and yes, you can do it all by post, CLEISS will tell you what you need to send, to where. If you can't extend your E106 or get any other E form cover, then you may be able to get CMU cover as a result of an accident de vie if your diabetes developed since beoming resident in France. See the www.frenchhealthissues website for some sample letters on how to do this. If you already had diabetes before you moved, you're in more of a grey area, since the French haven't made it clear exactly what constitutes an accident de vie, but this shouldn't prevent you from trying. However if you have a registered business, this alone should qualify you for french healthcare without needing CMU (in fact you wouldn't qualify for CMU at all if this is the case) but you would be put into one of the other health regimes relevant to your business registration category instead. Good luck!
You mean the one about having to stop the surgeon taking out me polyps cause I couldnt afford it? Coops I am too angry about the whole thing to take part and the BBC only likes chaps and gels who is politically correct and queer these days. (Sorry, angry because I think it is a bit like watching animals in the zoo)[6]
Hi WoolyB - I don't think I have ever been accused of being politically correct or queer (well, not to my face anyway!) but I will do my best to get our message across anyway, and try not to behave like an animal in a zoo.... good luck with the polyps and if it's any consolation, my husband tells me I snore too! Again, well put makfai. As yet there is no real evidence that any concessions have been made. As far as "rocking the boat" goes - usually there has to be a boat to rock! I also would like to know if FHI support Ron Avery's stance (there is no indication of this on their web site). -

Maybe a rocket applied to a certain part of Jim Murphy's anatomy would prompt him to clarify the situation!
Mr Murphy has remained typically dumb on this subject since I pointed this out to him yesterday! http://blogs.fco.gov.uk/blogs/jim_murphy/archive/2007/12/03/15249.aspx
Since Mr Murphy doesn't seem to read his own blog too often, it might be more fruitful sending an email to him at; -

Well put makfai. We should definitely continue to put pressure on all fronts. Any signs of a split could lead to the French adopting a divide and conquer strategy. If people hold back in their protests, it could be considered tacit acceptence of the current situation and not of the "anticipated" situation. I too think that a solution may be a long time coming and the E106'ers who lose their rights in January must remain of equal priority. The very fact that people are talking about different approaches for CMU'ers and E106'ers seems to confirm that we are not united. We either stand up for what we believe is right for all or it's every man for himself. Lobby everyone you can think of - especially the French health service, ministers, deputies, and MEPs. Maybe a rocket applied to a certain part of Jim Murphy's anatomy would prompt him to clarify the situation! -
I have been trying without success to get the email addresses of French ministers for lobbying purposes. Their postal addresses are freely available but time is fast running out for us (only 4 weeks left with Christmas/New Year in between!). I do not intend to vent my spleen on anyone - merely explain my position and ask what is being done about it. Mme Gaillard was reported to have said that the circulars were sent for distribution to CPAMs on the 23rd November. I have asked her if this is the case and if so, why the information hasn't been announced. I cannot see why she has not at least acknowledged my email since it contained valid questions. I also do not see any problem with contacting the Head of Communication for Social Security when no one else seems available. Encouraging others to do the same may, at the very least, convey the frustration that we all feel.
