1. What focus control do you have?  Can you select what object you want to focus on and then lock on that object focus if you recompose the shot?
2. I never thought I'd be shouting (well, screaming actually) for Japan.  Brilliant stuff.
3. It's a lot better than wave after wave of cookery, house buying/improving, antiques etc crap.....
4. Can I just check something out please.  We've been in France for the last month and will be going back to the UK next week. As far as I can remember, all postal communication with Alis has been to our UK address so I'm guessing there will be something on the mat there when we get back. We get a monthly email from Alis telling us the last month's charges and link to our online account. From what I've read on this thread it seems that we'll need to confirm to Alis that we accept their revised T&C. Should I be able to do this online or is a somewhat more crude method of communication required from me? Thanks for any clarification.
5. Thanks for the routes. Yes, I can see them. I'll have a more detailed look later. Bt, I've taken the liberty of taking the Facebook image and posting it directly here. Hope that's OK? 6.
Yes DerekJ I have got most of it on MapMy Ride but not sure how you would get to see it I did put it on Facebook though do you know how to put pics on here?
I don't use Mapmyride anymore (I use Strava) but as far as I know you would just copy and paste the url of the ride in question into this thread. As far as photos... I just have mine on a photo website (in my case Photobucket) and post the IMG address of a particular photo into your post on here.
7. Well done. Very satisfying I'm sure. 50 miles a day over a few days is decent going. Did you manage to upload your ride to any of the sites we discussed earlier?
8. Hi John, In the earlier part of my 35 years in IBM I was a CE FM and knew the pain an unbacked up S38 could cause. No names but.... I well remember the manufacturing part of a well known cosmetics company having a disk failure.... and no current backup.  The restore took them all week. They had just recovered and another disk failed. guess what, they hadn't been backing up as they were restoring.  I have never seen such rage from the Swiss plant manager directed at the DP Manager.  Soon after the DP manager departed.
9.
As I said, mine is already changed and originally it was changed some while back [8-|] It seems amazing to me that people just leave passwords at the default? But mind you, in a former life as an IBM mainframe eng I used to tell customers about saves and the number of them that didn't bother was incredible!
Not a good idea with a System 38.[;-)]
10. Operation Stack put in place again today.
11. I wonder if anyone actually tested this for usability? Poorly formatted - even the LH column  with User Details almost overspills into posts. Load of wasted screen space with unnecessary background of lavender fields. The overall effect just grates and I don't think I'll be visiting here much even for a browse with it in this latest format.
12.
I shouldn't think the fact that a few holiday makers have been inconvenienced will change that fact in a hurry.
You should have a look at the disruption being caused. This isn't just "a few holiday makers" being inconvenienced it's causing disruption to trade and major communication links both sides of the channel. It's one thing to withdraw your labour in an industrial dispute. It's quite another thing to stop other businesses and people going about their legitimate lives. They are trespassing, causing criminal damage, putting people's lives in danger etc, etc. Does that sit well with you?
13. So this sorry saga continues. It seems the French authorities have no guts to tackle this strike action and are happy to have massive disruption both sides of the channel. What an appalling state of affairs. This should be taken head on - police, military, whatever it takes.  I find it hard to believe there is no political will to resolve this.
14. This link may be useful although it isn't based on Amazon France. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/digital-home/how-cancel-amazon-prime-get-refund-3598161/ Note... You will only get a refund if you haven't used any of the Prime benefits/services. I  only use the Amazon UK site but I think Amazon are very devious in the way they make the Prime option selecting by mistake. At every order you have to take the ordering process very methodically at not get sucked in. Although I use Amazon still I try more and more to avoid them.
15. What a fiasco.... If this Calais situation continues people will more and more look at alternatives to traveling via Calais if possible/practical We were due to travel Dover-Calais early on Sunday and would have got away with it. However a last minute family bereavement on the evening of Saturday meant we've had to postpone our next visit.  Although we had a P&O ticket that was flexible and we can travel at a later date, I'm thinking of cutting our losses and finding another route. Of course, if that becomes the norm then now doubt strikers, illegals and ineffectual police will just move on to another port and screw that up as well. What a gutless way of dealing with this situation.
16. Are you going to upload your rides to any of the cycling websites.... Strava?  It would be interesting to track your progress.
17. Turn on the water Turn on the electricity Turn on the water heater Unload the car have a cuppa Quick glance at the plants near the house have a fry up Reconnect TV and internet collapse go to bed [:D]
18. For maps have a look at Pocket Earth  https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/pocket-earth-pro-offline-maps/id481679745?mt=8 I've got all of the UK and France downloaded on my iPhone.
19.
Isn't it time, irrespective of country, that supermarkets stopped raising customer expectations by building their premises with about 60 percent more checkouts than they ever plan to open? I don't think I've ever been into a supermarket, however busy, where they've had all their checkouts working.
That's a great observation... I must remember that one [;-)]
20. I spent a couple of hours in Oradour in the rain. I had the place pretty much to myself. I did take photographs and I make no apology for doing so. It was atmospheric and moving especially given the miserable weather on the day in question.  However, its impact was nothing compared to when I visited Dachau many years ago.  On the visit to Dachau my wife and I never spoke to each other the whole time we were there and also on the drive back into Munich. There was nothing you could say.
21. I saw some of the sets for that film which were built in Windsor Great Park and used the Virginia Water lake.
22.

Just my view of course but..... I get the impression that the vast majority of Scottish voters wanted to vote for separation at the referendum but in the end a large number chickened out of actually taking the plunge and standing on their own. Now, at this General Election, they can vote with their hearts and go the SNP route with no danger of having to expose themselves to the possible dangers of independence and going it alone.
A nice theory but not borne out by the facts. Total Yes votes in the referendum 1,617,989 Total SNP votes in this election     1,454,454 So I don't see any evidence for any No voters voting for the SNP this time around.
I understand your point and I concede that my view is primarily based on TV interviews conducted with Scottish voters at the time of the referendum. Just about everyone that I saw interviewed either wanted nothing to do with England or said that they thought they would be better off/less exposed financially by staying in the Union. Just about none of those I saw interviewed expressed any real personal bond with those of us south of the border.  Not a scientific analysis I know but enough to influence my view. Now, as far as numbers go... another way to look at them is... Referendum Yes Vote - 44.7% of those that voted. General Election SNP share of those that voted - 50% To me that says that the SNP did increase their share of the vote.
23. From an English perspective I wish they'd just clear off if they really don't want to be linked to us. I should add... I'd prefer that they actually wanted to continue being part of the UK but this constant moaning is beyond a joke. Put up or shut up.
24.
It's funny that the minorities always seem to make the most noise, I feel sorry for the Scots who voted against the Yes campaign. My problem is that Sturgeon and her cronies don't seem to understand what NO means.Still their blathering is working, as ask most English and I'm sure they would say give them independence now. By that I mean full independence, no Barnett formula, bring the submarines and the jobs back to England, stop giving bribes through awarding work contracts, No monetary back up, have a pound but make it a Scottish pound, not supported by England. Also make sure we the English don't pay the cost of them having what they want.  Also I notice now that the other person, the one who speaks for  Plaid Cymru, is jumping up and down and getting her knickers in a twist, saying "we want what their getting", well I've got news for you madam, so do we the English.[:D]
That just about sums up my view.
