1. Thanks everyone for the advice.  Have now buried pipe at 500mm in a gaine as no vehicular access.  What is a grillage avertisseur? thanks
2. Hi there I am in the process of installing 25mm new plastic mains pipe to two buildings.  It will be buried underground between 8 and 12 inches.  This may be a silly question to those in the know but should I insulate it? if so with what the foam sleeves thanks
3.
Yes, I tried it in the UK but i had two problems with it.  Firstly it always seemed to be raining on the days I was allowed to plant and secondly I bought two different books on moon planting both of which gave totally different data.
I came across that problem too! I read up on it from quite a few different sources and then devised my own plan. I think the waxing/waning aspect is more important than the zodiac aspect (a lot easier too!)
4. Too far to come, but thanks for the info  [:D]

Fencing
Just out of interest I have been told that I have to put my fence up one metre from (inside) my boundary. This does not make sense as I will lose that amount of land to my neighbour or alternatively there will be two metres of no mans land. Ever heard of this? Carole
I've seen this "no man's land" thing a LOT.  I never realised it was a legal thing - I assumed people did it so they would have somewhere to store all of their tutt (junk) out of their sight.
6. Thanks for the info folks. I'm going to do lunar planting next year (I've done this a bit in the past, but I'm going whole hog next year). Does anybody else do it?  It's quite the norm in France I believe.
7.
Unless they are japanese onoins I would say it is too soon to plant.  Shallots are traditionally planted on Boxing day and other sets in the early spring.  Keep them cold (not frozen) and dark.   Plant 15-20cm apart in rows 30cm from each other
I understood one could plant twice a year, once in Autumn and once in Spring - that's what my dad and granddad always did.  Also, I've seen my neighbour planting them up but can't see his spacing (and he's off hunting so I can't ask him)   Has anybody done an Autumn planting?
8. Does anybody have any unwanted dog beds going cheap (or free!)? We've taken in a couple of strays and need beds for them (hard prefered, but beggers can't be choosers ... their jabs, chips and what not have left me a bit short!) Thank you
9.
Positively rude to have a wood pile as big as that........... I'm only jealous
I bet it's been Photoshopped!  [;-)]
10.
Many thanks all - Toodlepips how long ago did you write to them & what dept are you in ?    - we're in the Vienne & I wonder if there's a  national policy to accept,  for example your claim that you have no TV.   I am sure it's a lot harder to attempt such here with the BBC.
I just wrote to hotel D'impots and that was that.  Exactly the same as I did in the UK.
11.
It will depend on what departement you are in... so, what departement are you in? Chris
Hi Chris - I am in haute vienne.  Thank you
12. I just put a jacket on when it's chilly!
13. I've just bought some sets from the garden centre but they have no instructions on them. I've never grown onions before, though I have grown most other veggies .... roughly what spacing should I leave between plants and rows? Thank you
14. I want to wallpaper just one wall that I have plasterboarded (the rest will be plastered and painted). After sealing it - do I need to put a thin layer of plaster before papering it ... or can I just use a backing paper and then the wallpaper? Thanks very much
15. I don't watch television and don't have one. With my first taxe bill I just deducted the TV license bit from the bill, sent a cheque for the rest, along with a letter telling them I don't have a TV. Now my taxe bills arrive without the TV license charge.
16.
I'm quite torn, as a lover of all animals, as to whether the dogs should be shot for doing what dogs do when the pack instinct kicks in.  Maybe they should just shoot the owner ?
How awful. I agree Bugbear - it's a very hard situation.  Once an animal has this kind of bloodlust, it's very difficult, if not impossible, to trust them again. I saw the sheep farmer in the field next to mine protrolling around with rifle cocked this morning - didn't look like he was hunting.  There is a big hunt up the road this morning, and the dogs are always wandering off and hunters often don't seem in much of a hurry to find them - sometimes they wander home several days later.
17. Does anybody know what "rights" hunters have to be on private land (either hunting or following prey)? Is it a case of unless they have permission they can't go onto the land? Or does one need to post "no hunting", "no access" signs (in french of course!) Most of my land is well bordered by mature hedgerow and fencing, but there are some gaps over in the far fields - do I need to take precautions to keep these people off my land?
18. Thanks Claire that's really helpful. I went on their website and it asked me for identifiant and mot de passe   you wouldn't know where I'd find that would you? thanks again!  [:D]
19. Can anybody tell me how one would get off a call centre list (one of those when they dial hundreds of numbers and the first to answer gets the sales call, everyone else gets a dead line - very annoying!) Also, I've suddenly appeared in the telephone directory - I asked that I not be included when the phone was installed, but I'm in the new one - how do I make sure I'm not in the new one (or any subsequent ones)? Thank you

A dogs thoughts

Aaaaahhh!  (that would make me cry if I watched it when I had PMT!!!!) I really feel for all those left at home alone all day dogs! Very sweet film.
21. Sorry if it is a silly question but what is a natural pool?  I have plenty of space so that would not be a problem thanks
22. Hi thanks for the replies. JR :I was concerened about expansion/contraction issues Dave :You say not to glue pipes in concrete or in th soil.  in soil the pipes I am joining them to pipes of a newly installed fosse and the pipes are all glued.so I was going to glue the pipes to it thanks
23. is it ok to concrete soil pipes, both indoors and outdoors. i know this is now against building regulations in the UK - is there a good reason for that?  or can I safely concrete in my bathroom wastepipes (they go through a trench in the next room and out of that wall to the outside). thank you
