1. Simply put a notice saying that you stopped someone from stealing from your potager and advising people to keep an eye open. Individuals can come to you if they want more info, and you can keep to a basic description - ie "short man with a limp in a white can with a broken headlight"...
 2.
... CA do have a monthly cash withdrawal limit for the machines but you can negotiate the limit, each person has a personal limit. If you need more you can withdraw cash over the counter and it doesn't come off your ATM limit - but you can only cash cheques at certain times, for my branch I think it's Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings or something daft like that...
I can also confirm both points: I asked for both my withdrawal and card limits to be raised a few years ago and they have remained at the higher levels since. I needed a large amount of cash for a delivery of wood last month and visited the village branch where I was handed a special "one-transaction" card, loaded with my account info and the amount I wanted to withdraw. No problem, as long as the account shows the correct balance. Also last month, I forgot to transfer some money from a savings account, but remembered to pay the electricity bills (both of them!). There were also a couple of Amazon purchases going through at the same time. The transactions were spotted by CA before I incurred any charges (€9.50 each) and CA contacted me to authorise an emergency transfer.
 3.
Yes with Crédit Agricole too. You fill in the details of the card, but just at the last moment a security code is required. This is sent to the mobile number you have registered with the bank. It is an added security.
Same here, also with CA, but the automated call with the security code comes to my landline. Though I should add a security code has never been required for any Amazon purchase.
 4. It's too hot to get het up about anything... Typed on my iPad, just before I get in the pool [:P]
 5. Don't miss the final stage from Versailles later this afternoon! Coverage on FR2 starts with a special program at 14:50 and carries on through the evening - with a couple of interruptions - until 22:30 (unless princess Kate of the Cambridges steps outside Kensington castle! [:D]) It's on  ITV4 from 4:30 pm.
 6.
Aha, so what do you ask for?
"Timbre prioritaire" is the correct name, though most people ask for a "timbre rouge". See http://services.completefrance.com/forums/completefrance/cs/forums/2824160/ShowPost.aspx
 7. Shame innit? [:P] I find it to be such a complete app, not just because it's got around 2000 recipes from a foodie, but because it's thought out and designed to work laterally. The recipes are expanded on sideways, literally, with suggestions, techniques, tips and alternatives. I can read a list of ingredients and open a sidebar with detailed info on a technique, or on an associated recipe, without losing track of the original recipe, and I can add my own notes, and use multiple timers throughout the cooking process... Definitely one of the best apps I have (not) paid for!
 8. How to Cook Everything Excellent iPad/iPhone app for foodies from Mark Bittman, American food journalist, author, and columnist for The New York Times. Free for a short period only.
 9.
The blokes on here, OTOH, are all young, virile and incredibly attractive. In their minds.
10.
most of the ladies on this site are distinctly on the matronly side...
11.
Thanks for all the replies. Actually I now realise that the box is left on all the time, I just turn off the tele. Is that significant? The firmware version is 1.00.28
From the manual:
13.1 OTA (Over the Air) OTA - Over the Air Software Updates will be broadcast via satellite for the product when new updates are available. Humax reserves the right for deciding when the software updates will be released. Follow below to ensure that you receive the OTA Software Updates when they are released: 1.  You are connected to a suitable satellite dish and are receiving the all of the freesat service. 2.  The signal strength and quality are at a high level; if you are experiencing problems with the signal then please do not continue with the download. 3.  The product is in Standby mode each night allowing it to detect, download, and install the updates when broadcast. Caution: •  Please do not unplug the product from the mains during the software update procedure; this can cause the product not to operate. •  Please do not remove the antenna cable from the dish from the product during the update as this can cause the product not to operate. Note: •  For information on the release of new software or the changes made please visit www.humaxdigital.com/freesat. •  The download can take between 5 - 10 minutes to complete. •  During the update process you will not be able to use the product. •  During the software update scheduled recordings will not take place. •  You cannot schedule programmes during software update.
Edited to add link to user manual (pdf).
 12. I don't remember ever seeing this message on ours. This probably keeps happening because the box is trying (and failing) to update itself, and the first suggestion which comes to mind is "Could your dish possibly be slightly out of skew?"

 14. If the breaker trips regularly, the first thing I'd look at is the kVA. If you're not sure or don't know, you can find the info on your bill. http://faq.edf.com/mon-compteur/panne-et-degats/mon-installation-electrique-disjoncte-souvent-que-dois-je-faire-y-200861.html (translation)
 15. My swimsuits and towels are on standby  but the water is still at 14°C... [:(]
 16.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent
I had already tried that, thanks! Written by geeks for geeks = Clear as mud! [:D]
 17. Sorry, I cannot comment on last night's episode as I didn't watch it... I went to bed very early (for me!) and only caught the attck at the beginning. But I am recording the whole series, so I'll catch up later [:D]
 18.
Ultimately, there's very little I find of interest on tv these days. Anything I particularly want to watch, I just use torrents and download, but even that's rare for me to do these days.
Torrents... now this is something I know absolutely nothing about. Can you enlighten me in simple terms? [8-)]
 19. No moaning? No complaining? No ruing non-existent customer service? Are you unwell? [:P] [kiss]
 20.

I haven't used ExpatShield since I installing Hola on Firefox and Chrome.
But it no longer works for BBC, so I use it and ExpatShield if I need to catch up with a programme I have missed. Sue
You can import scripts (=specific modifications) into Hola to receive channels which are not listed. The BBC iPlayer script is half-way down this page. Turn on Hola, go to the page above and click on the BBC script, confirm you want to import and you'll be able to watch the BBC again. [:)]
 21. I haven't used ExpatShield since I installing Hola on Firefox and Chrome. I watched the whole US version of House of Cards, as well as The Americans on ITV catchup and The Following on Fox.
 22. I went in again yesterday, although the water was cooler... Not so bad either! Thought about it today, but there's been that much rain and the air temperature had dropped so much, I just can't make myself go in!
