  1. AnOther Just checked the V5 copy and it does have the Type Approval Number under K completed. You live and learn don't you!!
  2. Final update on this saga. After soul searching as to whether I should go ahead and apply with a German C of C or try to get a French one from Volkswagon France and being told by them I had to have a French one (!!!!) I eventually went to Beziers with the German C of C. After worrying for days whether the sous Prefecture would accept it or insist on a translation, they didn't even want to see it!!!!   No problem, the man said, you have the V5 registration document from England and that counts as a European Cretificate!!!!!! Whew, and it cost me 150 Euros!
  3. AnOther Yes you are right!!!!! Went to the Impots yesterday and luckily I took everything I had as quite unexpectedly I was asked for C of C which threw me at the time and which was not on a list of requirements stuck on the counter window!!
  4. Arggh! Another complication is that I have just found out that the Prefecture in Montpellier will only accept an application if the applicant makes a rendevouz on line and it is a minimum of 3 weeks, looks like I shall have to go to the sous Prefecture in Norman land  Beziers!
  5. Thanks to all responders, great help. I have not yet received the V5 (!!!!!) so have not been able to insure the car as this is required by the insurer, also, therefore, I have not actually gone to the Prefecture to register it but was told by VW France that I had to have the CofC in French! However, thanks to Betty, I will now, when I have received the V5, apply armed with the German CofC together with a copy of  the official instructions. AnOther, yes you are right I should not have sent the V5 back to DVLA just to change name.
  6. I am now becoming terribly frustrated. I bought a Volkswagon CC at the beginning of March in UK and drove it back here thinking that it would be a piece of cake to sort things out. First thing is a CoC I had in mind, so on advice I bought one from VW Germany  no problem. However I am still waiting for the V5 from DVLA and can't do anything until I get it. Learnt that the V5 arrived end of last week which took 2 weeks by 2nd class mail!! Number one son posted it to me last saturday but it still hasn't arrived here. So, the scenario is that I can only insure it whilst on UK plates for 1 month, so I have been told by my insurer, but that involves everything else falling into place, so in the meantime I go down to the garage most nights and sit in and start her up whilst trying to figure out the satnav and radio and why are there so many buttons that I don't know about and keep flashing at me. Today I had some other wonderful news in that, I am told, the French Prefecture will not accept a CofC in German, it has to be in French!!!!! So, on the phone again and eventually got the ball rolling from VW France to get same, however I was warned that it would take some 2 to 3 weeks to come through! So I am still waiting for the V5 to come from UK, and without that I cannot get the CofC from VW and will have to continue spending quality time on my own in the stationary car trying to imagine what it would be like to be a normal person with a properly registered car driving around. Maybe buy in France next time!!!!!!
  7. Is there an application form to be completed for a quitus fiscal, or does one just turn up at the Impots on demand with all relevant documents, so to speak?

Some time ago I remember that a link to a list of ALD's was posted, has anyone any idea what the link is please?
  11. Just returned after picking up car in UK, glad to see that both mph and kph are shown, albeit in different places, so that's no problem, and also it is possible to change the settings on the multi function display to "touring" which then alters the headlamps to conform to right hand drive. I am a happy bunny!!
  12. Just had a look at the last CT papers and on the back there is a "Liste des Points de Controle" and at No.7 Equipements and 7.2.6 Indicateur de vitesse, so presumably there is a check but obviously they cannot determine if it is mph or kph. or else they arre not bothered!
  13. PaulT Very interesting, so do you think that Volkswagon could be taken to the European court? Highly unlikely that they would not conform to European standards surely, unless the digital display which can be in kph is deemed to satisfy the legislation.....I hope so!
  14. Thanks for the replies. Am I right in thinking that even though my proposed car is less than a year old it will still have to have a CT for registration purposes, and if I manage to get a CoC from VW I do not have to deal with DREAL?
  15. I am looking at buying a Volkswagon CC in UK to bring back to France, having done this before I am fairly sure on the processes. However I have just noticed on viewing the photo slide show on the dealers web site that the CC does not have kph on the inner ring of the speedo, only mph. I am assured that on the central console there is also a digital readout that can be changed to kph, should I be concerned that I will not be able to CT it when the time comes, at the moment the car is under a year old. On that vein I then wondered how a French reg. car with only kph on the speedo actually gets an MOT if imported to UK. Surely the speedo is an integral part of the CT and MOT?
  16. I think that maybe "allatsea" could well be a good user name for this particular poster!!
  17. I have a right hand drive UK bought car which has been re-registered in France. The time now seems right to sell it, and I intend to buy another from UK. What are the realistic prospects of finding a buyer for that type of car in France.
  18. Interesting post as I was just about to put pen to paper on this subject! Thinking of buying a Volkswagon CC and started to compare prices viz a viz UK and France with similar type car. Did some homework and came up with the following figures:- French from main dealer in Montpellier, reg. 2012, 23000 miles, £24500 English from main dealer in Bristol, reg 2013, 7500 miles, £19990 Now there seems to be a very large difference here and some of it is, I accept, down to currency conversion, but even taking into account the obvious charges of changing headlamp units and re-registering it does seem that it really is less costly buying in UK. Having to drive a UK type car does not bother me at all as I have been driving a UK 807 over here for the last 6 years, albeit for mainly autoroute driving and I also have a French Kangoo for pottering around here and I find it very easy to change from one to another. The other factor with buying the UK CC is that Volkswagon will also give a 12months European guarantee and a 7 days free Insurance cover, again including Europe. However, I am still thinking there is a catch here somehow!!
  19. Sorry, a bit off topic but....... I would like to vote at the forthcoming local elections having never been brave enough before. I think I remember that Norman quite recently posted on this topic and how to register, could someone please point me in that direction?
  20. Martin I well remember your good advice many years ago about receiving French television in UK before the big move!! Therefore I think it would be a great shame if all the other members of this fraternity were to be deprived of your enthusiasm and expertise on this subject which is so baffling to the majority. So.......returned back home to Ganges, north Herault, this afternoon after a month in New Zealand and also trying to escape the ravages of Cyclone Ian on Tonga, and fully expecting no television at all, when, much to my surprise we have all channels both on Freesat and Sky and perfect reception even though it is rainy and miserable!!!!! Can't believe it, after all the doom and gloom on the Forum. SWMBO is very happy!!
  21. I happen to be in UK st the moment, although returning to Herault next week so I don't know what our situation is. However a friend living in nearby Le Vigan (Gard) emailed me to say that he has lost all BBC channels, but a neighbour not more than 400 metres away with the same size 80cm dish can still receive!
  22. kizpip Apologies, tried my paperwhite again and it will only connect to the bookmarks if connected to wifi, it will only connect to Amazon or Wickipedia via 3G which was my original complaint!!
  23. kizpip Sorry for the delay but have been marooned by Cyclone Ian whilst in Tonga and have had to endure the very hot summer in New Zealand for the past month!! However, I have checked my KK and found that it will only me access to the official bookmarks so I cannot access gmail for example or BBC News. But I have now found that the Kindle paperwhite will now access many more sites due to the fact that Amazon have increased the official bookmark list which does include gmail!! Whether this is because of the amount of complaints sent in I don't know but it is certainly a welcome addition.
  24. Chiefluvvie Very interesting blog, however I must be the only person who does not have a Twitter or anything else account!!! However, if desperate!"!"
  25. I have had a Kindle Keyboard with 3G for some time now and I find the 3G capability very useful........email checking, bbc news etc. However, I dropped it and a crack appeared although it still works fine but I decided to buy a new paperwhite 3G. Having just picked it up from son in UK I tried the 3G function out. Does not work!!! Contacted Amazon and after a bit of digging around I was told that it is only possible to connect to Amazon or Wikipedia via 3G. Very dissapointed and unhappy that if I want to use the 3G in its proper guise I now have to carry around 2 Kindles!! If someone is contemplating buying the new paperwhite 3G and expecting all bells and whistled, then buyer beware!
