1.   (Her eyes are normal, it's the photo!) "Wilma" needs a new home.  She is a seven year old Jack Russell (from England), spayed, microchipped and vaccinated.  She is a loving, affectionate little family dog, but not to be with cats or chickens and ducks.  She is near Confolens, Charente. 2. I have just seen on the Wanadoo page that June 18 at 23.00 Florence Aubenas is the invitée d'honneur de l'émission "Toute la Nuit Ensemble" on France 5.  The programme will go on until 6.00 in the morning and is "consacré" to all those (as you mentioned) who helped and did all they could towards the liberation of Florence and Hussein Hanoun.
3. If you want to target British residents in France, why don't you try "French News", or perhaps you already have...?  There is also the site Artisan Anglais amongst others. Christine
4. "Huile de Lin" is linseed oil, if that's any help.  We used to buy it, so I suppose you still can. Christine
5. Yes, I know what it means.  It's just so odd to say "in shirt arms" (it doesn't mean anything when you think about it) at least the English version is in "sleeves".  Why don't they just say in a "shirt" or "chemise"? Oh, why can't they just wear a T-shirt?! Or a T-short as the French often say, getting mixed up somewhere between a shirt and shorts.  They also say a "sweet" for a sweatshirt.  It's getting a little cold to be "en bras de chemise", je vais me chercher un petit "sweet"... The worst must have been to row on a galère en bras de chemise. I shall try to dream about it all tonight "en bras de chemise de nuit". Christine
6. "Sharp practice".  Thank you for the information Ian.  It's getting more and more complicated... Quelle galère! Christine
7. I have one for you here Vraititi : If Iceni has someone looking for a flat in the Summer when it's hot and he is in "bras de chemise", how would you explain that one?  I have always loved that expression.  Quelle galère ! Christine
8. Looks like you and I are the only ones to have watched it Vraititi ! The others couldn't give a ....  They're all in France ! Christine
9. It looks as if you’ve made some friends Steve, on this forum. Everyone has kind words, that’s positive, isn’t it? It is difficult for us all right at the beginning, seven months hardly seems time to have settled here, without thinking about going back. But only you can decide. As someone else said, life is what you make of it, and there is usually a light at the end of the tunnel if you keep heading for it. You seem to like animals and have recently done a very good deed in helping to save some and they are so far doing well. That’s positive! Love, Christine
10. Being lost and a little paranoid about all this spyware, virus-full emails, etc. as in the other thread "Is this a spoof", can we know that sites, especially being free, such as the one just mentioned, are safe.  Is it really ok to download their stuff?  After receiving loads of emails, supposedly from Wanadoo, which they weren't, informing me my email account was going to be closed, I received an email from a site offering this kind of online assistance.  This made me wonder who is trying to give you a virus in the first place? Christine
11. We watched it and were quite surprised to see how much things have changed over there.  Lots of money to be made in London, low chomage, wonderful integration.  Tout le monde il est beau, tout le monde il est gentil.  Makes you wonder why everyone is leaving... Christine
12. Your English is very good Marjolein.  I understood every voord of it.  What nationality are you of it one? Christine
13. I have been getting them too and have been told to never open the attachments as they are full of viruses.  Weedon if you have Wanadoo and you get your emails on the site in "Messagerie" instead of Outlook Express, there is a heading over messages which says "traiter comme indésirable" and that's what I did with these messages and now it has quietened down.  Not long ago I was getting them every day. Christine
14. That's lovely Linnorton.  Someone who appreciates the nice simple things in life, which are sometimes the most important...  Cest formidable. Christine
15. Dear Lizzie,  Thank you so much for your kind words.  I am terribly sorry about your cat.  I know how you feel.  We also had some killed back in the early days and it is unbearable.  That is why now all our cats are shut in.  It is much safer, with an enclosed run, or some people put up an electric fence when this is possible.  Sometimes it is said that it is cruel, but I disagree, a cat wants above all his security.  If any of ours get out by accident, they panic and all they try to do is get back in where they feel safe.  There are lots of cats perfectly happy in flats. I too was very touched when I saw the photo of little Saffie, so sweet.  Thank goodness she got back safe and sound and Louise and her family can now enjoy a weekend letting everyone they contacted learn the good news! Love to all, Christine
16. Saffie is back! Great relief.  She wandered home this morning, after three weeks, a littly grubby a little thinner, otherwise fine.  Her family is overjoyed.  If only she could tell the tale... Thanks to everyone for looking out for her. Christine
17. Did you know that on Monday 13th June there is a programme on French television, France 2, at 23.15 (11.15 pm in English, French time) entitled « Un oeil sur la planète ». The subject : Doit-on copier les Anglais? Here below is the text concerning the programme in the Nouvel Observateur: Les Anglais sont énervants.
18. Crikes, they're at it again?  I say you chaps, watch out or old Quelch will be back! (or was it Squelch, I can't remember). Let me know if there is need for a guard dog. Christine Animal (well that's how I come out, perhaps better than troll).
19.
Hello?? We're here already. It's just that unless we are acting like something out of Darby O Gill, you Brits think we're actually British. France has always been a favourite holiday destination f...
All I can say is WELCOME.  I already said on here somewhere how much the French love Ireland and the Irish. Will you be adopting any dogs?! All the best, Christine http://animalaidsaintaubin.monsite.wanadoo.fr
20.
The picture does not seem to come up
Perhaps you could try the site, her photo is on the front page. Merci, Christine http://animalaidsaintaubin.monsite.wanadoo.fr
21. Louise’s little dog « Saffie » has gone missing from her home at Saint Vallier, near Chalais (Charente 16) since 22nd May. She is very young, was not wearing a collar, but is microchipped.  Louise says she has an over-shot jaw. Despite Louise’s ads and posters there has been no news of her. It could be that she has been picked up by a well-meaning French family who, seeing no identity, may have thought she was abandoned and have kept her as she is so sweet. I say French because most English people take dogs they find to the vet to see if they are chipped, while the French have still not generally caught on to this. This is why we still have ours tattooed as this can be seen straight away (the best of course would be to have both). Also there has been a mistake in Louise’s telephone number when her identity was registered. If someone thinks they may have seen Saffie, anywhere, even with someone who may have taken her, please contact Louise: telephone 05 45 78 47 53, or if you can’t get Louise, please contact us. Many thanks, Christine http://animalaidsaintaubin.monsite.wanadoo.fr
22. Looks like we're in for some fun!  Do you think they will be coming on the forum? Christine
23. There are some truly fantastic people on this forum.  Someone has offered to take the six Siamese cats and we can't thank him enough. I have offered to take the tabby, longhaired cat, aged 13 (unless someone else is willing to give him a good home). All these cats have been used to living in an apartment and they are at Saint Lo. Still do be rehomed urgently, we only have about a week: - a black 18 month old boy - neutered - a fluffy black female kitten, 8 months old - grey tabby-type, young I think, I don't have his age, neutered. A little sort of West Highland Terrier, photo on its way, which I shall post separately. Any home, even temporary, would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Christine
24. Someone else is leaving France without their animals. I believe there are ten cats, some of which are Siamese and a little dog, in Normandy, Calvados, Manche region.  I should have more details soon.  But if anyone would like to save some of them, please contact me. Dare I mention again Oliver the poodle who still needs a good home, his "parents" are leaving this month. Merci, Christine   http://animalaidsaintaubin.monsite.wanadoo.fr
