  1. You'd be right there
  2. Does anyone know if this is available in France? If so does one go to see a gynaecologist or medecin traitant? Is it covered under the carte vitale system? Is there any information about it here in France, I can only find English websites. Many t hanks
  3. Please forgive my ignorance in these matters but, can I plug into my TV via one of the USB ports. a USB key so that I can watch programmes I have recorded from the computer? If so, how? I have connected the PC upto the TV via the monitor cable, but it is all a bit fiddly so I am looking for an easier option. All I want to do is watch the TV with programmes that I have on a USB key. Thanks and again excuse the ignorance.
  4. Point taken She was9 when the original passport was issued, so I would say yes her appearance has changed quite a bit. Going back to my question in the first post I made, can anyone suggest what to put ie "je certifie que c'est une vraie ressemblance d'....." is this acceptable and is it ok for the mairie to sign? Also do you have to pay for TNT delivery back or can you still get the relevant postage which you include inside the envelope, last time we renewed this is what we did but things may have changed.
  5. I know this post is a year old now, but as I am renewing my daughter's passport in France, I thought I would ask our Mairie to countersign the photos. Can anyone tell me what he should actually write on the back of the photo - in French - so that I can ask. One other question please, do you have to pay for TNT delivery back or can you still get the relevant postage which you include inside the envelope, last time we renewed this is what we did but things may have changed. Many thanks
  6. Last year I was devastated to be diagnosed with cancer, it was extremely scary and a truly frightening experience.   I had all my treatment in France, I was lucky in that I had excellent care and treatment, and can't thank CSF enough for their help too when I needed it. It is bad enough to have such an illness, but to cope with things in a different language is not easy.   The majority of doctors I saw spoke very good English, although I always tried to speak to them in French it was obvious their English was better than my French.  Most of the nurses only spoke French, but we managed when necessary and even had a few jokes at times.  They were always very supportive and understanding of my needs.  My chemotherapy was followed by an operation, then just after christmas 5 weeks of radiotherapy.  My GP was very sympathetic, would always phone me after a hospital visit to see how I was and how I had got on. I missed having family around, and they too felt they were left out and wished they could do more, but they couldn't other than visit and lend a helping hand. I recommend CSF as they have a knowledgeable team of volunteers, and if anyone is about to go through this experience and would like to ask questions I am more than happy to try to offer some help. Good luck to those about to have treatment, and for those like me who are presently in remission.
  7. Our daughter needs to find a place for work experience at the end of January.  She would like to go into midwifery/nursing and therefore would like to have a placement in a hospital. Writing in English to request this is different in French and I wondered if anyone can help with the wording in French please? Something along the lines of (in English) "Please may I request an opportunity to have a placement for xxxxxxx January to xxxxxxx January as I am hoping to have a career in nursing/midwifery and would like to have the chance to do my work experience with you" etc. etc. Are there any usual/bog standard letters for this type of thing. Thanks to everyone
  8. Thanks to all who have posted in reply. Its a bit confusing for us to look and read all the documentation from the links so we are going to go to the local gendarmarie to see what advice they can give. If she can apply for dual nationality at 16 then it seems that might solve the problem. Could the last poster possibly give me the link to the other site you are referring to please, so I can look at what has been said there too. Many thanks to all.
  9. Our daughter who is now 14 has been in the French schooling system since she was 8.   Now she has to start thinking about what career she would like to do, and is thinking about becoming part of the police here. It has been mentioned that because she is not a French citizen, or born in France that she cannot join the police or any other French Services, is this correct? Can she apply for dual nationality as a minor? Can anyone suggest any alternatives or exceptions for joining the police  in France?
  10. After having recently had an operation (covered under ALD) I now need physio but I can't drive for another 5 weeks. I just wondered if getting an ambulance/taxi/vsl to these appointments, for which I have a bon de transport for, is covered by CPAM 100%, as the taxi driver seemed to think it wasn't. He suggested I contact my CPAM to find out. The op was for cancer and the physio is as a result of the op/treatment for cancer.   Is he right? Many thanks
  11. our daughter is interested in having a kune kune, we're not ready to take one in just yet due to house move but would like one in about 3 months time if possible. We only want it as a pet not to EAT so any advice on keeping a kune kune as a pet would be appreciated. Many thanks
  12. Can anyone give me some information about this huge caterpillar?  It was about 4 inches long, had a very fat body and could certainly slither along pretty quick. Is it harmful? many thanks picture resized by a moderator
  13. Hi Lesbatees, I have so many questions but to start off with, was you offered plenty of anti nausea/sickness medication at the same time as chemo? The reason I ask this is that my friend who is a cancer specialist nurse has said that if given at the same time, it does help with preventing these side effects. Are cancers graded the same as in UK?   Do you have a nurse that you regularly see either at home or at your GP rather than visiting the hospital?   If you had chemo, was it just an outpatients appt or were you taken into hospital to have it? I'm sure there will be much more, I am trying to prepare a list to take with me to the Onco but I am not sure how well we will be able to understand each other. Thanks for your help
  14. As I have a first visit with an oncologist this week I need some morale support so my husband is accompanying me to the hospital. I was given a bon de transport,  is it ok to take someone with you in an ambulance taxi? As I am posting, has anyone received chemo treatment in France for breast cancer?   I am desperate to find out from others experiences.
  15. Of course, we didn't or wouldn't even consider asking for a repayment, as Ernie says for the last year we have all had some sort of medical treatment. Thanks Will for your answer - perhaps that is one organisation I should look at.   Is that the same as ENIM which I know deal with French Mariner's health rights?
  16. As the lady in question that Cooperlola is talking about, firstly I would just like to say an enormous thank you to her, to anyone involved with French Health Issues and all the other people that have been rallying to our support, it really does mean a lot to myself and family. I hope to find a resolution, we will of course be applying for the 5 year rule after our 5 years are up so I hope that will be an end to our problem. Just out of interest, any ideas Will why this organisation (part of the social security) would not be applicable in our circumstances: http://www.cfe.fr/pages/assurances/particuliers/intro.php my French isn't up to much but my neighbour (whose French) seemed to think it would be a way round our problem. Many thanks
  17. We have tons of birds, some very pretty ones but so far I've not seen one pigeon in the garden.  Plenty of magpies, I suppose they probably do the same damage. Thanks for your helpful advice.    I did google beforehand RH, but thought I'd ask some of the forum experts what they thought too, the gardening section is usually very informative. Sorry if you felt I was asking a stupid question.
  18. Apart from the chemicals you can buy, is there a natural way of keeping insects off of the brassicas?  I know that you can buy the fleecy stuff, but I wondered if there is another cheaper possibility.
  19. Can anyone recommend a doctor, male or female but preferably with a little bit of English who is accepting new registrations in the areas of Gourdon, Salviac,Grolejac or Carsac? Many thanks please PM or email with details.
  20. Oh dear, reading this has me thinking I must be perimenopausal.   Its difficult for me to tell though because a couple of years ago I had a gynae procedure which (fortunately) stopped the monthly cycle.   However, for the last 3 or 4 months I seem to be experiencing aching in joints such as knees, feet, hands and shoulders (does anyone else have this symptom?) and I think the night sweats have started - or is it just the warmer weather, I ask myself.   Forgetfulness and lack of concentration seems to be more noticeable.   As for lack of sleep, I've forgotten what a good 6 hours sleep is like - I am lucky to sleep for 2 hours a night.   Mood wise I haven't noticed much difference, although I always did have PMT which seemed to last for 3 weeks of every month - according to my OH![;-)]   Do these symptoms sound familiar or am I going nuts? Maybe we should start a "female hormones" thread???
  21. That's great news, unfortunately we had an accident last week with our 2nd sky box, it got water damaged and isn't working.   I've been trying to bid for one on ebay for a week now but keep getting pipped at the post! If anyone knows anyone who has a box they no longer need or want, please let me know.
  22. We had this buzzing around today, it was like a dragon fly but it buzzed really angrily and wasn't quite so big.  Any ideas what it might be and more importantly, does it do anything nasty like sting? http://s28.photobucket.com/albums/c234/daffydolly/issy%20et%20amies/taz/?action=view&current=whatisthisinsect.jpg
  23. On searching for advice about how to take cuttings of wisteria I found this thread. We took a cutting of a non flowering stem from the joint so I hope that this will come to something?   Have any of the previous posters had success this year with their cuttings, and did/do they flower? Many t hanks
  24. So there is some hope then, that spring will arrive this week. It can't come quick enough for me, I feel so much better (expect everyone does) when the sun shines.
  25. Being new to the Dordogne, perhaps you can tell me if this rain is normal? When will it stop?   It's so depressing, I had hoped that by now we would be experiencing some warmer weather but it doesn't appear to be happening. If anyone has a long range forecast that is looking better, please give me some encouragement.................or is this it?   I think its even worse here than in the South of UK, cos everytime I speak to family/friends they say its not bad, but its always wet here.[:(]
