1. I've been trying to download the PDF version from the government website but each time I get the following message "To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html" I've got the PDF version they ask for and yet it still won't download. I've also tried registering to get the document but still can't. Does anyone have a link for this document without all the hassle? Thanks
2. we have a very old car, we've tried to sell it without success but during this time have been paying insurance for it just to sit on our property. Can we now cancel this insurance as the 2 months renewal is approaching - we don't know what we'll do with the car but certainly won't be driving it so I guess it will just become a feature of our garden. We heard that as long as the battery is removed it's ok not to have it insured when on private property. Is it necessary to prove renewal insurance or change of ownership in order to cancel any insurance? Is there a template letter to cancel it without any questions? Many thanks
3. have always frozen semi skimmed milk both in UK and in France, no problems just give the bottles a good shake before use
4. The packaging says "GEB pool * Colle Feutrine pour feutres de piscine". Yes felt Is the felt meant to stick to the render using this product because it didn't before, but we never got as far as putting the liner over it as rain stopped play, so the felt has been rolled up and kept dry in the garage ready for take 2.
5. We used the correct PVA that the swimming pool manufacturer supplied with the carpet and liner, however is the carpet actually meant to stick to the render or is the PVA just to seal the render? Attempt number two tomorrow at fitting it all
6.
Well it's the 3rd email/post from people today suffering from the "green" Decent testers are worth their money as it saves the hassle and expense of chemicals if as you say you can spot these things. Some of these "cheap testers" really are hard to fathom the colours, customers show me their testers and I look hard and still can't work out what I am actually supposed to be reading. There are colour matching test kits that actually work, I still have mine in case I turn up and batteries have gone flat, that is again not cheap but at least I can read the correct colour depth from the wheel.
Can you recommend a decent test kit please?
7. I didn't see any last night and feel cheated as family/friends in the UK did see some - but I did see a couple last week, quite quickly too with looking out to the sky and within seconds of each other Is it worth continuing to look for the rest of the month?

Lymphoedema

Just wondered if anyone else suffers with this and if so what treatment is available in France. Many thanks
9. I'm happy to report that OH used the route via Rouen and found it a piece of cake, although slightly longer it was an easier drive - all done without TOMTOM!
10. Can anyone offer a route around Paris to Calais that avoids the centre of Paris as the sat nav usually takes me right through the centre and I'm sure there must be another way. Many thanks for help
11. Thank you all for your replies. I have looked at the brochure which is in English and in French but find it a bit confusing. I'll give them a call tomorrow to find out how much towards food/accommodation is covered - as I've found before being ALD doesn't mean everything is covered and there are often surplus charges. I believe it is near Poitiers, which I think is around 3 hours from me.
12. Following pretty bad burning after radiotherapy last year I've been left with swelling which my surgeon is saying is oedema. He has recommended treatment at this place and says they often send post cancer patients there if needed. Has anyone ever had treatment there? The website is quite informative but am still confused about what security social will pay for or not. If anyone can help with steps for getting a place there I would be most grateful.
13. we've lost our ITV channels too, it was ok yesterday HELP! Is this the new satellite?
14. I believe it's called a "discharge" book, in that the seaman takes it with him wherever he goes to work even if different employers.   So yes, my OH has one of these.

Wisteria

eried - lovely photos Thanks to all for replies I'll look into it - i've written that word down so I have it to hand when I go to the garden centre
16. ANO - what is a merchant seaman?   I believed it is someone who works at sea, on a vessel but doesn't fight in wars?   Perhaps my understanding is totally wrong

Wisteria

I've had a wisteria that hasn't flowered at all for 3 years, it's growing nicely and seems to like the place we've put it but I understand that to have one that flowers often is to have a grafted one. What would I be looking for on a label please in a French garden centre to explain it's grafted.
18. " But also in this case, it looks to my inexpert view quite likely that the special regimes applicable to aviators and merchant seamen apply ..." Could you please explain Pickles, simply and in English if possible, what those special regimes are?   I ask because this applies to my OH and income earned offshore has always been declared in France and taxed in France which is where we live.   If there is anyway of getting some tax back I'm all for it.   I've recently found out that a friend of my son is also a seafarer, he's French, has a house in France, works all over the world and yet he doesn't have to pay tax because they consider him an expatriate - he was surprised that we pay.   Many thanks
19. I understand how upsetting it was for the man, especially as the dog also bit him. However to accuse someone of this (when they were obviously mistaken) is what upset me. He hasn't been to say sorry himself. Anyway innocence prevail s!
20. Shortly after his visit to me his turned turned up who was less aggressive than him and also spoke a little bit of English so I invited her in to look at the dogs.  She agreed it was not one of them, but said the killer dog looked like my other dog.   I explained that there was no possibility it could be my dog as he is old and rarely goes out, never by himself.   She could see he wasn't aggressive so begun to doubt the description of the dog. Just a minute ago she came back to apologise and say that they were mistaken as they found the dog that had done it and from the description it is NOTHING like my old boy, who wouldn't even eat a fly! At least she said sorry, but I still feel churned up about being wrongly accused. Thanks for replies.
21. I'm a bit shook up as I've just had a man here (in a white van so maybe a chasseur) telling me that my dog had killed his dog this afternoon and he'd had to see a vet. This is categorically not true but there is only my word.   I've been in all day with both my dogs but he was very firm in telling me about this. He is obviously mistaken and TBH there are always dogs wandering around our village by themselves but neither of our dogs go out without us. I'm just wondering if he is going to slap a bill for the vet onto us. I don't know who this man is or where he lives so I suppose it is a waiting game to see if anything happens next but my concern is can he try to get our dogs put down?
22. We have received one of these asking us to pay an extra 20 euros - so  I tried to speak to someone today with my French which leaves a lot to be desired (and I did apologise at the start of the conversation) and she was saying our payment was late, didn't reach them until 4 Feb - when in fact that was the date to the limit of the payment, so I'm confused. Is it worth sending a letter to ask to be let off?   Has anyone tried this?   Even so if they received our cheque on the date of the limit surely they can't say we were late?
23. I'm new to Android and have tried to put the google chrome extension onto my android device, however, although I've managed to download the accelerated internet site it doesn't seem to let me add it as an extension in chrome. Any suggestions anyone?
24. Just watched the second episode of The Following, it's brilliant and Kevin  Bacon as usual plays a superb character so really recommend this.   How you getting along with it Clair?
25. Jo, I was so sorry to read about your husband's passing it seems so quickly too which for you must be very hard to deal with. Sincere condolences, I have a very good listening ear if you ever want to PM! How are you coping, with all the practicalities of a death and surviving away from family can be difficult, there are many of us here you can rant to if need be. So sorry!
