  1. Just in case any of you guys can remember this dog....the 6 months is nearly up...and Tony is coming to join our gang on June 17th!!! In the mean time, we have rescued another tiny little setter from Greece who joined us last month...and now another one courtsey of Jouals!! Thanks, Jane, you have been great. I really MUST stop at four...we've just changed our car to fit them all in! I'll keep you all posted when the deed is complete....
  2. Can someone let 'Choo' know that this dog is still available?? Maybe..but maybe......
  3. Ahhhhhhhhhh...he is SO adorable! What's wrong with people???? All I can say is thank God I don't actually LIVE in France....I'd have them all!!!!! Surely he will melt someone's heart??
  4. Grrrrrrrrr! Have signed!! AND didn't have to read anything about this horrendous torture either.....
  5. Yipeeeee!! Managed to get on line...at last! Sorry guys! Computer rage an' all that! Anyway, thank you for thinking about us for the 2 lovely red setters but unfortunately we have already promised to take a setter from this site...just awaiting the pet passport process to be completed in June. OH has already been sorting out purchasing a larger car for the 3 dogs we will then have ...so, as a friend has suggested, do we start now looking for a horse-box to transport all these dogs I want to rescue???? Val, that's a great idea you have as there were several people who offered a home to the other setter who were living in the UK. One in Blackheath and one in Wales(if my memory serves me right?!). I'll see if I can dig out their addresses. Also agree that it would be better if a new thread was started specifically for these red setters with the previous posting that was written about them. Could admin sort that I wonder??
  6. Is there not some way of finding out WHERE the vet was based when the chip was inserted in the UK? Remember there was a dog with a British chip some months ago who was found wandering (Bordeaux area?) and everyone searched for the owners? Typical.. I can't remember the final outcome! But in that aforementioned example the vet was able to give a name and address...albeit the people had moved but there are enough of us here in the UK to do their 'Miss Marples' or 'Kojak' bit and attempt to hunt down the original owners..presuming they want their dear old dog back! Lets hope they are searching for their pet...but unsure how to do it! Lets help find THEM!!!
  7. I wrote a plea on AngloInfo Normandy and have had this reply. Any good, Rowan? http://normandy.angloinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=76176 Can't seem to be able to post link page but it says that there is someone near Domfront who would love to give this setter a home BUT it's too far...any suggestions????
  8. Try Jenny here as she runs the English setter rescue in the UK. She seems to know people all over the place (maybe even someone in Europe who can take this setter immediately). How I wish I could help. Jenny Penna [[email protected]]
  9. I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't have electricity ...... BUT if the foster family can no longer keep them then please bear in mind that, in looking for a permanent loving home, there is a wonderful band of helpers who seem to be able to arrange co-voiturage to help take these two to another new home. I can supply two large dog crates to aid travelling. By the way, glad that the new replacement added to your family has settled in well. As said before, you will have NO regrets!
  10. Gosh, Pommier, I didn't realise that ANYONE felt EXACTLY like I do!! Let me know if you get any offers..but mine is a lot older, hence more expensive to keep. She is already in a foster home....awaiting some 'mug' to take her...but connections to the Rothschilds, Goldsmiths, Royal family (any Mid Eastern country will do!) or Duke of Westminster would be beneficial all round!! Good luck with your new puppy! You'll never regret your decision to downsize!
  11. I can't stop thinking about them either, Christine.....I just keep telling myself that these horses MUST have been saved! We've just rescued 4 young alpaca and I've already told my OH that IF there is a rain storm in the UK like the one in Queensland then the alpaca are coming upstairs..with the dogs..and him...if he's lucky!!!!
  12. What a beautiful boy! But I'm already planning to have Tony (see earlier thread!) so PLEASE PLEASE will someone else rescue this fabulous setter.... They are such 'needy' dogs...a cuddle and desperate to please! He's gorgeous!!
  13. How fabulous..... That's made my night!!! He looks soooo adorable...and sooo soft...a gentle giant! Lets hope he gets on well with his new 4 footed friend...
  14. Well, Tony has now had his chip and blood test....prior to his Pet Passport! The French family are being so very kind. Doing everything possible to help....they are just so pleased that a new home has been found for their elderly relative's dog...and we are simply delighted to add another setter to our brood!! Will keep you all posted on further developments.....
  15. READ IT TO THE END, PLEASE. A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate and, as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, could you tell me where we are?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. 'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. 'Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.' The man gestured, and the gate began to open. 'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveller asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. 'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.' 'How about my friend here?' the traveller gestured to the dog. 'There should be a bowl by the pump.' They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were satisfied, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveller asked.. 'This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveller said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.' 'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?' 'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.' Soooooo...... You are all welcome at my water bowl any time!
  16. Hope more dogs found lovely new homes. You are all so kind to spend sooo much time helping those in need..... Well done.
  17. PM sent to you, Merlin. Jouals is going to find out if Tony is an 'outside' dog (won't be once he's here, you can bet on that!!!) so that kennels might be the best/better option for the 3 months April to June...until his passport is valid. We all can't wait!!!
  18. Can you believe..the PM from Jouals has JUST arrived into my computer....snowbound perhaps???!!!!
  19. Oh my Gawd..that's AWFUL! Why can't this inspector just take away these 2 poor dogs? I was told that the RSPCA here in the UK have even greater powers to enter houses to look at animals reported to them than the relevant people who 'rescue' children! Can the SPA not just take these dogs as they are very obviously not being cared for? It's so very very cold outside.... I weep for them.
  20. Yes, sorry, didn't notice where this dog is living...but who cares??!Have car..will travel! I'd really like to find a temp home for the last few months somewhere further north...if that's possible. Any more ideas? I have asked if Tony can start his passport process (where he is) asap so that he can join our two.... Will keep you posted.
  21. I have now 'spoken' by email to the daughter of the elderly gentleman who owns Tony. I was pleased that he (the dog!!) gets on well with other dogs...great!! Also, Tony could possibly stay where he is for about 4 months so a foster home seems to be needed for only 2 or 3 months. We ourselves could stay in France for the last month to complete the 7 months after the beginning of the 'passport' system. I have told my 2 boys that they may soon have a new brother...lots of licks showed their approval!! I will continue to correspond with the daughter as I do not even know where this dog is!! Watch this space......
  22. Could 'joules' give us his/her telephone number so I could phone to have a chat. I'm not sure how to write a PM otherwise I'd give mine....
