1. I can only assume that means you've not bothered to research it either that or you're not bothered by the spying, incessant updates with no indication of what they do and creeping advertising. If it's as good as you opine then why is it do you think that it's taken getting on for three years to capture a pathetic 28% of the market - and most of that (about 25% which includes significant numbers it was forced on !) in the give away period. Since the end of that uptake has all but stalled and that's despite the fact that it's been the only version of Windows which has been available on new PC's for quite some time. You'll note from the graphic that 7 has not only held it's own since the middle of last year, roughly coinciding with the end of the 10 give away, but in fact GAINED over the last quarter ! 2. Well I suppose that was inevitable and while I'm not saying there is anything fundamentally wrong with Linux (I've been seriously tinkering with it myself) the very fact that someone has stuck with Vista to the bitter end strikes me as fairly conclusive evidence of a low level technical competence which makes it difficult to see how Linux is a practical solution to the problem for those potentially affected. For openers how many I wonder would have the first clue about what to do with a downloaded .iso file ?
3. Fair question but why a mistake, 7 was (and is) their best OS ever. I bought a new laptop last year and immediately binned 10 and installed 7 on it, I have a corporate version install CD which needs no activation [;-)]
4. Yep, for those of you clinging on to that lame dog of an OS called Vista (exceeded in badness only by Windows ME) next Tuesday is drop dead day, the OS will continue to work (and I use the term in the loosest possible sense) but will receive no updates or security patches so you're on your own from then on. In an attempt to be helpful MS say you have two options: 1. do not connect to the internet with it 2. upgrade to Windows 10 Actually it's three except for the fact that you can no longer buy Windows 7 ! https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_vista-windows_install/windows-vista-end-of-support-april-11th-2017/34ea674e-f0b4-4a00-b0e2-79e0d3144ba4
5. I'd rather it noshed on the Jocks - starting with Nichola, they like fish I believe !
6. Did anybody spot this, exquisite timing ! http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/786435/BREXIT-BOMBSHELL-EU-demands-UK-number-plate-RECALLED-2019
7.
Well, if it is true, very sad indeed, but unfortunately it is 1st April so I do wonder.
Running down your own wife is a bit OTT for an April 1st prank [:-))]
8. Well only a mile or so away anyway, don't know the people but the word locally is that there was a big domestic row going on earlier in the evening. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4369918/British-expat-arrested-crushed-death.html
9. I'd be interested to see what the actual focal range of those are. I've got 5x, 15x, and 20x loupes and in practice it's only the 5x that's really useful because it has a focal range of about 2" whereas the 15x is only about 1/2" and the 20x is about 1/4", both much too close in to do any work.
10. I've replaced many a surface mount IC in my time and still have some of the gear to do it with somewhere but as Chancer says eyesight becomes the limiting factor and these days I find myself struggling even when working with full size components [:(] I recently had to replace the micro USB connector on the motherboard of my tablet, a job which in former times I'd have expected to be done in one pass and take maybe 10 minutes start to finish but this time it took me half an hour or so to get a result I was happy with. 11. Fair play for having a go but believe me that ain't minuscule !
12. Aaarrrrgggghhhh indeed ! Every year this crops up and every year the same raft of advice is given some of which does as much to muddy the waters as clear them. The bottom line is that it's not in the least bit unreasonable for you to both know and have on record exactly how much income you received in the course of any given tax year be that in Euros themselves or derived from Sterling transfers, and that's the number you put down, I don't know how much simpler than that it can get ? The one and only time averages come into it is if your own tax office do openly publish a figure in which case you can legitimately apply that to your Sterling transfers if it did happen to work to your advantage but you can't cherry pick between the times it did and those when it didn't !
13. Relative pinouts here
14. A moot point surely ? If the husband didn't have the personal resources to pay a fine or compensation etc. it doesn't go away and could be levied against his assets which would include those held jointly, even up to the family home, so in that sense the wife can never be immune from the financial consequences of his actions. Better for him to control his temper or seek counselling if he can't, hitting someone may provide momentary gratification but very rarely solves anything ! If there is a specific issue which is is driving him to such action perhaps if you said what it was somebody might be able to help you deal with it and take away the frustration ?
15.
Perhaps condolences for those who were murdered, at least? I offer mine together with deep down, controlled rage.
I'm sure we all feel that Wooly but see no reason or purpose in vocalising it especially on a totally insignificant niche forum where nobody actually affected by it is ever likely to see it. Do it for yourself if it assuages a personal need but please don't berate those who choose empathise in private.
16. Fosse - water not much more than €1/m3 Mains drainage - water €1, sewerage charge €1, something on top just coz they can, - total cost per m3 up to treble. Long live the fosse !
17. My favourite is yesterday because I survived it without slip, mishap, or bad news. Today is shaping up because I've woken up  - a good start of itself - and although a day older apparently no less sound in body and mind than when I went to bed last night. Given no slips, mishaps, or bad news before I go to bed tonight then tomorrow morning today will assume the title of my favourite day [:D] Unless I have a specific reason to mark it, an appointment say, what actual day of the week it is often escapes and being a complete agnostic atheist Sundays are nothing special and are often only notable because of Sunday lunch.
18. That's doing two and a half year olds a disservice, perhaps he was contemplating grabbing her by the pu55y instead ? I think his bizarre and immature behaviour since taking office speaks as many if not more volumes about the warped and misguided values of those who continue to support him despite it - strike that worship him - as the aberration of his election did. When you witness the quasi religious adoration poured on him when he speaks to the faithful it's hard to avoid drawing parallels with cults, previous fascist regimes, and yes even North Korea ! What puzzles me though is that while you can partially understand his appeal to the proportion of the electorate who voted for him - and lets call a spade a spade here and acknowledge that to many in the civilised world outside of the US when it comes to in matters of politics and global issues beyond their own borders the average American is reckoned to be somewhat naive and unsophisticated and has done little to dispel that by enabling this farce - it's far harder to comprehend the support he has from what on the surface at least would appear to be the rational and reasonably intelligent people comprising his cabinet and I'm wondering if he's headed for a putsch or at least a muzzling and being turned into a mere puppet leader. After all is said and done in politics being in power is absolutely everything and for better or for worse achieving it and holding on to it transcend all and if his behaviour threatens that then they will have no option but to act in whatever way it takes to prevent it.
19.
Men in general are completely flummoxed when faced with another language,
You mean female speak [:D] BTW Angela Merkel speaks excellent English, Trump is an ignorant buffoon in about 10 miles over his head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGZWR5S1lCo
20. You did indeed but hey ho. FWIW it works exactly the same on my Win7 PC so where your spell check is coming from without a plugin I don't know, it's not simply XP-v-7 though that's for certain. It could be something to do with IE I suppose but since I've completely expunged that piece of pooh  from my Win7 machine I have no way to test it.
21. Just for Dept71 I've fired up my old XP Netbook and downgraded to FF 45 (British English version) and with the British English Dictionary I linked to installed spell checking works perfectly. FF British English 32bit can be downlaoded here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/45.0/win32/en-GB/ or 64 bit here https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/45.0/win64/en-GB/ EDIT: Updated to FF 52 and still working [;-)]
22. Unsurprisingly perhaps this site exhibits some anomolies with spell checking in FF. I use this plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/british-english-dictionary/?src=api and proved it by deliberately misspelling 'anomalies' above which it picks up when enabled and misses when not.
23. Web spell checking can be as much of a browser function as an OS one. What is the default language on the XP machine and which browser are you using with it ? You're correct about spelling errors in your post: On the desktop the spell checker works IE small red squigly line under the incorrect word. but on the laptop there is nothing. I refered to this on an post a few days ago. Any enlightened person any idea whats wrong. This is written on laptop so I think there is at least one wrong spelling.
24. A lot more isn't though ! My tastes are pretty eclectic (although C&W and RAP are 100% interdit [+o(] ) however some of the stuff today does stretch the envelope of what most would even term 'music'.
