  1. The mobile is for the couple to use in france for emergencies only, they tell me they have so much credit on the french mobile and I believe the french mobiles work differently than uk, so they thought a uk pay as you go would be sufficient for the odd calls they make each month and they could top it up when they visit the uk, hope this makes sense!
  2. Hi Just searched the internet, am I right in thinking we could just buy my friend a mobile in the UK, top it up and send it to her to use in France? do all the pay as you go companies have different tariffs if so does anyone know which is the cheapest or best only I am baffled with all the information. Never been good with technology would rather just be out in the garden! Thanks Pauline

  5. Hi A friend of mine would like advice on mobile phones, they live in France and have a french pay -as- you -go but dont use all the credit, they would like to get a UK phone and top up each time they visit the Uk and then use it the occasional time they need it in France, does anyone have any advice for them, I said I would get one and take it over on my next holiday. Any advice appreciated. Thanks Pauline
  6. Hi Paul Nothing to do with the weather but browsing the site came across 'Bologne sur gesse' hubby and I are looking to move to that area as soon as we have sold our uk home, how do you find it, we spent 2 years looking round and loved the area, we would welcome any comment. Pauline

  13. Sorry Andy, I was a bit vague wasnt I !!! my friends garden is on a number of terraces, they get the sun most of the time, he only got 6 plants from the row of carrots he planted and they were really small, tiny infact. the courgettes are again were very small although the plants did grow the fruit didnt mount to much, I know the soil is very stoney and I suspect without much goodness as he moved in 18months ago and it was very overgrown, he is a novice gardener I wondered if he should have fed the soil prior to planting, what do you think? 16. Hi Does anyone know of any running events in Gard, or near St Ambroix, a friend of mine who lives in the area would like to get more information but unfortunatly he doesnt have a computer. I have told him how much he is missing not having access to this website. Thanks, Pauline
  17. Hi I have just come from a 'help a friend gardening holiday' in Gard, he is having trouble with his carrots and courgettes, neither have done very well so I said I would post a plea for advice to all the knowledgable gardeners in France, as he doesnt have a computer.  Pauline
  18. Hi Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. OH & I are preparing to move to france and wondered about life insurance or if we decide to get a small mortgage, mortgage protection, my OH was diagnosed with prostate cancer 11 months ago, we are having positive results following surgery and have been told he has a 90% chance of it not coming back, does anyone either have experience of getting insurance in this situation or does anyone know a good company we could check out with, hubby is 55years old, and took early retirement 18months ago so we could move and then found out just after he retired that he has cancer, he is fit and well, very positive and raring to get to france. Thanks for reading this and we hope someone can help. Pauline
  19. Hi My mum has all her fruit trees in terracotta pots, the thing to be aware of is they dry out a lot quicker so need regular watering, I would put a layer of pea gravel on the top of the soil which will help to keep the moisture in a little. I bet you look forward to your first G & T with leomon !! Pauline
  20. Thanks for the replies, next question, sorry to seem a bit slow but how do we go about changing it to a french driving licence, is it just at the post office?

  24. Judith, I am so sorry she looked a lovely little girl, they leave such a gap in your life dont they, I bet you had some lovely times together so hold on to those memories. My little Bichon has just been diagnosed with cancer of the mouth and I dare not think about it. love to you and your family at this unbearable time. our 2 Bichons have their passports ready for when the house is sold in the uk (if ever) and we make the move, we want to be able to bring them with us on visits back to the uk. It was quite staight forward just needs keeping up to date, the vet guided us through the process. (Hugs to you and yours) Pauline
  25. Words fail me, the pictures were horrendous, the poor little love is now safe and out of pain away from those things that call themselves humans. I had better stop or I will say something I will regret, but like the rest who said, Turkey is well of my list of places to visit. Pauline
