  1. On Barclays website to open an account: Your addresses for the past 3 years - your current address will need to be in the UK and in their T&Cs: Eligibility for an account We can close an account (or stop providing a service) if we find out that you are not eligible for it (for example, through age, employment, residence status, or credit status). We will try to tell you in advance if this happens, but if we were breaking any rules or laws by continuing to offer you the account or service, we would have to close or stop it immediately so there we are, residency status, which I presume the bank has not been informed about, i.e. French resident - and the T&Cs do require the customer to notify it of any changes - closure. As far as I am aware all UK banks for a normal current account require the holder to be UK resident.
  2. I was looking for a well rated restaurant in Lincolnshire for a special event. The results for TA had a McDonalds in the top 20 - need I say more about trusting the reviewers on TA.
  3. Ah Johnson the buffoon. Or is he? Yes, there have been the gaffes but from what I have read he is known around the World from promoting London. The reason that I saw for his appointment was to foster trade and better to have someone know who does have charisma (hopefully the president of Turkey is too involved with other matters). The cry was that Brexitters should be involved well, they certainly are (leave Leadsome out of this, I do not think she could negotiate the purchase of a 99 from Mr Whippy). I am sure that he has been told by mummy May that he will have his legs slapped if he fouls up and as a charm offensive is called for his charisma will shine through.
  4. Mr JC - he seems to me just a puppet of the unions. As for him expecting the loyalty of MPs, that is extremely hypocritical as he never showed loyalty to the Labour Party voting against it many times. As for supporting Remain there seems to be a difference of opinion from other Remain politicians. He refused to share a stage with them and at one point stated that he was only 7/10th for the EU. Saw it somewhere whereby the leader requires a certain % support of their MPs which JC most certainly does not. Personally, if he ever became PM then the unions would have a field day at the expense of the general population (and I know some of those will be union members).
  5. As for staff in major retailers not knowing the requirements of the EU then they are probably going on what management is telling them and management will be keen to minimize their exposure hence the 'the warranty only applies in the UK'. So, if they have what you want buy it and if anything goes wrong you now have the info to get it repaired. About to buy something from the retailer I think you are referring to for the UK. However, for a bit of fun I shall ask about the warranty taking it to France hohoho
  6. Quote: 'So if the car needs an MoT, you can't drive it to a garage or MoT centre to get the certificate so that you can road tax it? A bit Catch 22 methinks ' A difference between a period of grace and taking a car for an MOT. The rules state something like 'a vehicle can be driven to an approved MOT station for a prebooked MOT'. It makes no mention of being able to drive it backso presumably if it fails it needs to be left for repair and when the car has an MOT that it is taxed before driving it home.
  7. Quote: 'No they only control 4 - two of which - Scotland and Northern Ireland - voted to remain. ' My understanding was that it was a UK vote, not a vote by 4 separate countries, and the UK voted Leave.
  8. and the period of grace for road fund licence is a big fat zero. The normal way of dealing with an untaxed vehicle is to impound it - cost of recovery £100 plus and £12 per day storage.
  9. Well ermie, as I posted previously these are the views of the person she has put in charge of Brexit: http://www.conservativehome.com/platform/2016/07/david-davis-trade-deals-tax-cuts-and-taking-time-before-triggering-article-50-a-brexit-economic-strategy-for-britain.html I have a few tickets for todays meeting between May and Sturgeon anyone interested - think there will be lots of hair pulling
  10. Certainly brings things in to perspective - terrible.
  11. Ebaynut wrote: 'PaulT, I see that you live in Lincolnshire, clearly I don't know where, but guess you are nearer to Boston than any other poster on this forum. Why do you think that is was only 75% of the voters in this town, which has been over run with people from outside the UK who voted to leave? Are there really 25% of voters there who are exploiting the 'newcomers' in some way that wanted them to stay so much they voted to remain? I have never been to the town, so don't know it, but it has been featured many times in TV programs lately.' Firstly, I find your tone abhorrent -'why do you think it was only 75% of the voters in this town' (voted Leave) but I will reply Now Boston is not anywhere that I have spent time in, merely passed through or visited Wickes there'. Yes, there are a lot of eastern europeans there - there is a lot of agriculture and the need for a lot of manual work. I can only assume that 75% voted to leave because of the immigrants - the xenophobic streak. The 25% voting to Remain identifying with the need for workers. I wonder how many of the 75% would be prepared to be out in the fields in January at 6am in snow, rain etc cutting cabbages? From the TV it would seem that there are a lot of shops to cater for the incomers, such as Polish food shops which, if I were there would certainly explore to try something new. Our local supermarket in France has part of an aisle with Union Flags on it and produce from the UK for the Brits. If Brits want Marmite etc why should not Poles want what they are used to? I can also walk along a UK street and see Indian restaurants - why not complain about them and say 'what we need are restaurants serving good old British grub'.
  12. The BBC commented that the blonde bombshell had travelled extensively when Mayor of London drumming up support for London so is well known around the world and with those contacts could build up trade. As for Johnson and Fox I am sure that any trouble and they will be standing facing opposite corners of the room. As Clarke commented about May 'she is a bloody difficult woman'.
  13. Chatting to someone today who voted Remain commented 'we may as well get it over and done with because if the outcome had been Remain it would only have lasted until 2020 when come the election UKIP would have gained even more votes and MP, been in coalition with the Tories and voted through with the Tory euroscpetics.
  14. As for pensions Fred is now a resident of France receiving a UK state pension that increases annually and also has healthcare paid for by the UK. Pierre is now a resident of the UK receives a French state pension but does not receive increases meaning that when his income falls below a certain level he will receive UK state benefits. Also France does not pay for his healthcare so when he falls ill the UK NHS picks up the bill. Is this fair?
  15. Ah, but what rights do you want the ECHR to have? Should Rosemary West who murdered, having abused umpteen girls have the ability to decide how the country is run because the ECHR say that she should have a vote? There have been numerous examples of strange decisions made by the ECHR that prevent a sovereign country from governing itself.
  16. Boris Would have thought that mummy May gave Bozo a good talking to about being a good boy. Think he likes to play the buffoon when it suits him but far from unintelligent - there is no such thing as is bad publicity. Perhaps the Duke of Edinburgh could give him some advice :) Reciprocal As it says - same action between two parties so it is not just up to the EU about pensions and health but up to the EU AND UK. My understanding that this does not apply in Australia because the Australian government decided not to reciprocate.
  17. This is an interesting read - by the just appointed Brexit secretary: http://www.conservativehome.com/platform/2016/07/david-davis-trade-deals-tax-cuts-and-taking-time-before-triggering-article-50-a-brexit-economic-strategy-for-britain.html
  18. Idun wrote: 'That does not mean that the vast majority believe what they say' This was in relation to the statements by the Leavers. What is the source of your statement or is this just your unfounded view? As for Leadsome pulling out - if you cannot handle an interview with a newspaper what hope of effectively handling complex negotiations such as Brexit.
  19. I just wonder how the Leavers campaign would have got on with the ASA if they had been advertising a product? Stop immigration - they could not give that assurance Save £50M per day - they could not give that assurance. As for trading with the rest of the world - well, they will know that the UK needs to find alternate markets so any negotiations will be from a position of weakness including low prices. The petition about a 2nd referendum is to be discussed.
  20. YCCMB promises were made - £350M per week to the NHS and no immigration so there were plans. What the country needs to do is to say we suspend this government and now Messrs Bozo, Tonto and 'make mine a pint' need to put their plans in to place for Brexit asap so that the NHS gets the money and Johnny Foreigner is kept out.Would have been all over if they had started on June 24th.
  21. Yes, there is more to UK residency than just having a property and a simple search of the Internet will find what constitutes UK residency.
  22. Just thought with the keenness by some of reality TV and viewers voting there could be a Saturday night show in which the Government asks, say, should income tax start at £15,000 - dial xxxxxx for yes, yyyyy for no.
  23. Surely, to get a 'proper individual mandate' an election would have to be run on a single item. Each MP having their own manifesto that merely states if they are for Remain or Leave and nothing else. At present it seems the Conservatives would be Remain, LibDems Remain and Labour who knows. If the manifesto was not just about the single item then how would an MP know if their electors had elected them on their stance on the EU, taxation, health, education, defence etc.
  24. But Clegg says: 'Second, the new prime minister should immediately publish a white paper setting out a full plan. Third, they must then seek a democratic mandate for their plan in an early election' So the election is won by a party that is not the Conservatives so is it considered that the plan is rejected? The LibDems will campaign on a pro EU stance along with most Conservatives. As for Labour who knows. Could another way be, and this is watching pigs fly, is that all parties agree that the majority of UK citizens wish to leave the EU so a cross parties group is set up to agree the way forward and to take it forward........ or is there the hope that some how, be it legal or other exiting does not happen.
