  1. Much as I aggree with all the above, if we all did that in England the post office would go out of business, it is only junk mail which is keeping them going, what with emails and texts, so no I look on receiving junk mail as helping to keep our postal service solvent, shame it has to be that way.
  2. Cat I have just revisited your website and I think it is delightful, You come accross as really honest people that I would love to stay with, your love of food comes accross perfectly, please let us all know how you get on, there has been so much information on this thread and good advice, I hope you get some more bookings you deserve them.Good Luck.
  3. why don,t they go back to the olden days and issue a boarding pass with a seat number, those checking in first can choose their seats, then there would not be the bun fight at the boarding gate, it is so simple, they could still sell priority boarding passes, pre booked, but take them from a seperate lounge. It is not rocket science, it is what used to be the norm.
  4. Being a foody, its got to be,the cheese counter anywhere in France, Saucions hanging up, french letuces,I could go on, but the thing I really look forward to ,is turning into my lane and catching the first glimpse of my old stone house, when I have not seen if for a few months, still brings a lump to my throat, even after fifteen years, yes I know I am daft !!!!!
  5. I have the magazine delivered every month , I really miss the articles by Trevor Yorke, he was the most fantastic photographer and I loved his writing, he always found great places to eat, I keep them filed in regions and if I am visiting somewhere new, I look it up in the magazines.I have been getting them for about fifteen years.I think the legal issues are really helpful and for me a real improvement to  the magazine.I also got a removal lorry that advertised in there and they were great. So yes. I will carry on getting it.
  6. I would have thought like the U.K. a tiler would be paid by the metre, otherwise you could work as slow as you like, I have never heard of a tiler being paid by the hour, however site work is often on a day rate.
  7. I have never seen a milkman in France, not that you see so many in England these days.I also wonder if they will follow suit and bring traffic congestion charges in Paris, I rekon there would be an uproar.
  8. My neighbours son is a farrier, we are near Eymoutiers, his parents own a very nice hotel called the Ranch du Lac and they would be very pleased to help you and you could stay there whilst you were house hunting, they speak English fluently. They know the vets in the area and helped me when my cat needed the vet. They also have a gite with all the usual facilities. Please pm me if you require any extra information.
  9.  Its you Christine that everybody is grateful to ,for doing such wonderful work on behalf of these lovely animals.I know everybody on here will agree with me,you are a very special person indeed.
  10. Fab pictures, they are gorgeous and I love the tom and jerry gap at the bottom of the barn door, I have several in mine.
  11. The guy cannot have ever tiled before, it is nothing short of disgusting, you should try and get your money back before you rip off the evidence,as they might not pay out.Good Luck.
  12. I must admit I do wonder what my french neighbours do all day,the woman I mean, there is only so many times you can keep cleaning a house,I suppose they kind of spend all morning doing lunch, they have never had to do school runs as kids are picked up, they just seem to have a more sedate  life . What does suprise me however is that they all leave their washing out in the rain even if it is for a few days, until it is dry, the only thing I can think is their rain is clean and it doesn,t make any difference. They all put their quilts out the windows, I never do, incase a mouse or lizard gets inside the cover, can you imagine that.Well I still think the woman don,t have a bad life.
  13. My O.H. is a ceramic tiler and has been tiling all his life he is 52, when he tiles over tiles he sometimes puts pva on but if they are clean just tiles over the top, but he has said to me to tell you to rip them all off, although it is a pain its the best way, keep the money back and get a different tiler,he often comes accross plumbers that say they can tile and they are just not up to standard.Ask at the Marie for a list of local tilers who just do that for a living you cannot go wrong if they are reccomended by someone who has had a good job done, he is over at Easter if you want him to have a look, we are in the Limousin. Please feel free to PM me if you want me to ask him anything else.Best wishes.
  14. If I could move to France and  live like the french woman in our village, I would move tommorrow and never come back, the men do all the back breaking jobs, the woman get fresh veg just picked and dropped off at the kitchen door about 10.30.am a nice fresh plucked chicken brought ready for the oven shortly after, then its time for the logs to be replaced, the bread  and cheese van turn up, so far madam has not left the house,Then they all sit down to a hearty lunch with wine at 12.30. and chuckle at the mad english woman opposite strimming her 6 foot long grass in th mid day sun incase it rains later, thinking who in their right minds ,would drive 500 miles to do that and then call it a holiday.I know the younger generation of french perhaps do not live this way,but the older ones do,I think they have it about right myself, no wonder they live to great ages. out of interest has anyone ever seen a french woman ,digging strimming or on a ride on lawn mower, because I have not.
  15. Heaven for bid if someone is looking for prostetics or crackers just to name two ,it will certainly make me think before I post a new topic !!!!
